Indonesia: Jokowi Appoints Din Syamsuddin as Sepcial Envoy for Interreligious Dialogue

 

Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (23/10) appointed Muslim leader Din Syamsuddin as a special envoy for interreligious and cultural affairs.

Din currently chairs the Indonesian Ulema Council’s (MUI) advisory board.

“Today Din Syamsuddin becomes the president’s special envoy for interreligious dialogue and cultural cooperation. He’s an expert,” President Jokowi tweeted.

Jokowi requested his new special envoy to promote interreligious dialogue in Indonesia and abroad by introducing the country’s experience, BeritaSatu.com reported.

Din presides over the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP). He is also a professor at the Jakarta State Islamic University. In 2014-15 he chaired the MUI and in 2005-15 served as the chairman of Muhammadiyah, Indonesia’s second largest Muslim organization.
