What started with a Wilmington man making threats to burn down a mosque over Facebook ended with him pleading guilty in U.S. District Court in Boston to illegal gun dealing and possession of child pornography.
According to a press release from the U.S. District Attorney of Massachusetts’ office, 44-year-old Patrick Keogan took to Facebook following the terrorist attacks in Paris, France on Nov. 13, 2015, and posted threatening images on the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center’s page.
The images depicted a mosque in flames with letting over it that read, “Burn your local mosque,” and “Hello scumbags,” next to a smiley-face emoji.
According to the press release, Keogan posted the same image on the Islamic Society of Northeastern University’s Facebook page. After those incidents, authorities received a search warrant to search all of Keogan’s Facebook postings. They found that, as early as 2013, Keogan shared and commented on posts that promoted the burning of mosques.
