SHARJAH: His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, opened the library of Imam Ibn Al Jazri Mosque, launching a scheme for mosque libraries across the emirate.
Sheikh Sultan, who was accompanied by Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, toured the library and inspected its contents on religion, history, languages, literature, family and children.
He also attended a presentation on the library scheme for mosques, the first phase of which entails opening libraries in 21 mosques in Sharjah city, Central Region and Eastern Region of the emirate.
The Sharjah Ruler performed the Friday prayer at the mosque where the topic of sermon was the importance of hygiene in Islam.
AUS ALUMNI
Sheikh Sultan, as President of the American University of Sharjah, AUS, has pointed at the great expectations of the university and his determination to achieve them. He added that AUS is not only a distinguished educational and academic institution, but also a vibrant heart that produces engineers, scientists and thinkers to the society.
Sheikh Sultan made these remarks while attending the Alumni reunion of more than 2,000 AUS students on Thursday.
Addressing and welcoming the audience, Sheikh Sultan said, “We are happy to meet you again in the reunion of AUS where you spent most of your time studying in its classes and halls and your names will be remembered among the university alumni.”
He also extended thanks to those who contributed to developing the university, and said, “Without the intense efforts of all of you, including the Board of Trustees, the administration, teaching staff and students, the university would not witness this progress.”
He continued, “On this occasion, we emphasise that your relations with the university, which began years ago, will continue.”
Regarding the celebration of the university’s 20th anniversary, he said: “We are about to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of AUS while celebrating the Autumn batch 2017. On this occasion, I would like to confirm that you and other graduates since 2001 have contributed to a number of achievements and thanks to the university’s support, you are assuming the highest posts.”
He reaffirmed, “I advise you to provide support to the new alumni to contribute to the country’s march of development.”
Sheikh Sultan said, “We gave directives to AUS to become a pioneering research university, and in fact, a strategic plan was set to achieve this goal, taking into account the academic distinction in the higher education field.”
He concluded, “Thank you for answering the invitation and I remember that I shook hands with every one of you on your graduation. I wish you a very fruitful life that is full of giving.”
