USA: First United Methodist Church of Glenn Ellyn invites the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Chicago to an interfaith dinner

On Wednesday, November 9, 2016, Pastor Kristen Larsen of the First United Methodist Church, 424 Forest Ave,Glen Ellyn, IL, invited the members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Chicago to an interfaith dinner with the members of her Congregation. Around 35 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community including Men, Ladies and Children attended and enjoyed the delicious Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner prepared by the members of the First United Methodist Church.

Imam Shamshad of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Glen Ellyn addressed the gathering and in his speech he briefly introduced the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and its activities in the area and Worldwide. Imam said, Islam is the religion of Peace and Tolerance which teaches respect for all without any discrimination of race, color and faith. Imam mentioned the five pillars of Islam which teach to its followers to worship Allah alone and be peaceful all the time in all their affairs.


Answering the question on “How Do Muslims Worship?” Imam Shamshad said that offering Salat five times a day is the primary and fundamental (Prayers) but, it is not the only form of worship in Islam, there are several other ways to worship God as well. He further said, there are over 700 commandments in the Holy Quran and following each and every one them is means of worshipping God as well. He then showed and explained the different postures Muslims follow while offering Salat. After the speech, there was a Q & A Session and everyone took great interest in asking various questions about Islamic faith to Imam Shamshad. He then invited Pastor Kristen Larsen and her Congregation to visit the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Mosque, Masjid Bait-ul-Jaamay located in Glen Ellyn, IL.


At the end, Imam Shamshad presented The Holy Quran with English translation to Pastor Kristen Larsen and her Congregation. He also presented 5 other books including “World Crisis and the Pathway to Peace” which is a compilation of Speeches and Letters by the Worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Mirza Masroor Ahmad to members of the Congregation and the Muslim Sunrise Magazine to 3 members of the Congregation.


Mr. Mashood Mirza, the Secretary for Interfaith Department of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Glenn Ellyn spoke at this occasion and thanked Pastor Kristen Larsen and her Congregation for the wonderful hospitality. He then introduced the weekly event organized by the Community “Coffee, Cake and True Islam” and invited all the members to participate and ask any questions about Islam or Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

The Dinner and all the other activities took place in a very honorable and friendly manner. Pastor Kristen Larsen then ended the meeting with prayers from Old Testament and all the members departed by greeting best wishes to one another.
