Canada’s new liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Washington for the first state visit by a Canadian leader in nearly 20 years.
He has been welcomed by President Barack Obama with a red-carpet ceremony at the White House.

The two leaders are expected to discuss trade and environmental issues.
The visit comes as relations between the two countries improve, having become strained under Mr Trudeau’s conservative predecessor Steven Harper.
Mr Obama extended an invitation to Mr Trudeau shortly after his election in October 2015.
