PORT HOPE — In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, a Muslim association is holding a series of events to raise awareness on the teachings of Islam.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association hosts the Holy Quran open house to Demystify Islam at Port Hope Public Library – Mary J. Benson Branch on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

In a press release the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association said the group categorically condemns the terrorist attacks, adding terrorism has never been and will never be the teaching of Islam.

Groups such as ISIS are a danger to all humanity and the whole world, said Noman Khalil, national executive director, department of faith outreach for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. These dangerous ideologies must be eliminated with proper education, said Mr. Khalil.

The actions of ISIS and other terrorist groups have created myths surrounding Islam which in turn have given rise to hate crimes against Muslims all over the world, including Canada. This is due to the lack of understanding of the true and peaceful teachings of Islam, he said.

In response to the attacks, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has started a new nation-wide campaign including 135 open houses, and 270 visits to more than 35 towns across Canada, in an attempt to spread peace, demystify Islam and create religious harmony.
