Morden mosque fire: huge blaze breaks out at Baitul Futuh mosque in south London

A huge fire today broke out at a mosque in south London.

Fire crews were called to tackle the blaze at the Baitul Futuh mosque in Morden just after midday.

More than 58 firefighters were sent to the scene, where about 50 per cent of the mosque’s ground floor was alight, a London Fire Brigade spokeswoman said.

  1. Smoke was seen billowing from the building for miles around as fire crews worked to contain the flames, which also spread to the building’s first floor.

    The mosque, which was completed in 2003, is reported to be the largest in Western Europe, covering 5.2 acres. It can house up to 10,000 worshipers and cost about $ million to build.

  2. Nothing to worry that much. Such things do occur to remind to overcome short comings. It is God fearing, living and dynamic Muslim Community. Every thing will be OK soon.

    Has it been controlled. If at all it is blamed on electric then Mosque people should be very careful to examine the fuse (main fuse) and cut out. They should not let any go near the fuses and cut-outs because they need to be examined and then it becomes clear whether it was an electrical matter or otherwise.
    It could be due to some mistake in electrical protection system.
    It appears that there has been much damage.Inna Lillahe,,,,
