The Ahmadiyya Muslim Senior Secondary School at Rokupr Town in the Kambia District was recently gutted down by a mysterious fire accident that destroyed half of the school building and other property including computers, text and exercise books, furniture and other materials estimated at millions of Leones.
The principal of the school, Musa K.D. Mahmood disclosed to this medium that the fire started at the toilets close to the main building that left staff and pupils wondering as to the cause (s) of the fire.
Musa K. D. Mahmood further disclosed that the fire destroyed some of the classrooms, the newly-constructed modern library building which he asserted would adversely affect the effective operation of the school.
He furthered that the school recently reopened with only few accessible classrooms while most of the pupils take classes outside, a situation that is unfortunate and not conducive.
According to the police in Rokupr, they are investigating the accident while the community, in collaboration with the Old Boys Association and other stakeholders, have helped to construct and roof three classrooms and provided some furniture.
However, the principal is grateful to the Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Alhaji Moijeih Kaikai for donating bags of cement, the Old Boys Association and other stakeholders for their support to renovate the buildings that would help transform the school to its past glory.
Musa K. D. Mahmood also revealed that as education is the key to success, he is appealing to Government and charity organizations to come to the aid of the school to repair the buildings and provide furniture and other equipment.
Dilating on the Ebola outbreak, he said he has put mechanisms in place to ensure that pupils are safe as they have been admonished not to touch each other, abide by all the preventive measures and urged Government to continue its support to the school.
