Jihad means Holy war: "A statement, not a fact!"

Today, the word ‘Jihad’ has become a popular justification for horrible deeds such as suicide bombing, beheading and killing in general among some so called Muslims.
But what is Jihad?
I will get back to that later but it ISN’T the common definition: ‘Holy war’ .

Islam never support killing but some people hide behind it to commit horrible atrocities for their own selfish reasons.
Two factors to make clear are that:

Killing is allowed in Islam ONLY:

  • If it’s out of self-defence.
  • If war is being waged against the religion. (i.e. if  people are being killed solely because they are Muslims).

Nevertheless, Muslims in whatever case are NOT allowed to be the first to raise arms.

The usual accusation of there being verses in the Quran to kill disbelievers is getting way too old. The verses refer to the past when Muslims after years of persecution were given permission by God to fight and defend themselves and also to overcome the enemies so that places of worship will be protected.

Take a look at this verse:

“Those who have been driven out from their homes unjustly only because they said, ‘Our Lord is Allah’  And if Allah did not repel some men by means of others, there would surely have been pulled down cloisters and churches and synagogues and mosques, wherein the name of Allah is oft commemorated. And Allah will surely help one who helps Him. Allah is indeed Powerful, Mighty.” Holy Quran Chapter 22 v 41.

It is clear from this verse that should the enemies not have been stopped, places of worship, not just for the Muslims would have been destroyed.
So, What is Jihad?

Jihad means to strive to the utmost for the achievement of a purpose and to leave nothing undone in pursuance of it.

  • Striving to maintain peace is Jihad.
  • Striving to spread the beautiful teaching of Islam is Jihad.
  • Striving to serve humanity is Jihad.
  • Striving to become a better person is Jihad.

I guess you might think that STRIVING to KILL is also Jihad except there is no justification to kill people in the Quran other than what has already been explained.

At this point, you will agree with me that for some so called Muslims to kill in the name of Islam is NOT Jihad.

There are couple of books about the true concept of Jihad. Please read one of them (British government and Jihad) from the link below:

If some Muslims kill to avenge a mockery of the Prophet, then they should remember that he even tolerated persecution and retaliated with forgiveness.

Don’t take my word for it! Read ‘The life of Muhammad’ from the link below:

Every Good Muslim community is against terrorism and any terrorist organization.

The head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslims Community; his Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (May Allah be his helper) has once again spoken openly against atrocities caused by other Muslims at the 11th annual National Peace Symposium on 8thNovember 2014.  Visit the link below for more details.
