UK: NHS ‘cracking’ as admissions due to alcohol hit 10million

The National Health Service of UK is under ‘intolerable strain’ as almost 10 million admissions in England last year were related to alcohol.

Treatment costs the taxpayer £2.8billion, which is why the government is being urged to tackle the ‘public health crisis’.

Jackie Ballard, of Alcohol Concern, which has released the figures, said: ‘We urgently need action to prevent alcohol misuse.

  1. Suggestion: as admissions due to alcohol are sort of -self-afflicted – I suggest that a ‘sur-charge’ be handed out to those admitted for this reason. Let them pay for self-afflicted injuries…
