The Ahmadiyah congregation remains at the Al Misbah Mosque Complex in Pondokgede, Bekasi City , due to their distrust of the Bekasi City Government’s measures, which include sealing and fencing the mosque complex with corrugated iron.

The city government claims its action was based on the Joint Decree of the Three Ministers, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Fatwa, the West Java Gubernatorial Regulation, and the Bekasi Mayoral Regulation. This rationale was displayed on the mosque’s front sign regarding the ban on Ahmadiyah activities in Bekasi City.

“Actually, the congregation doesn’t want to be like this (staying put), the reason for staying put is because of coercion and distrust of the steps taken by the local government,” said Febi Yonesta from LBH Jakarta after meeting the congregation at Jalan Pangrango number 44, Jatibening Baru Subdistrict, Pondokgede, Bekasi City.
According to him, the congregation guaranteed that they would not violate the joint decree of the three ministers.
“They still don’t understand the seal and zinc fence, because the congregation claims to be legally valid and not breaking any rules,” he said.
According to the congregation, he said, the Joint Decree only prohibits the dissemination of conflicting teachings. Meanwhile, the congregation ensures that no one violates it.
“There is no reason for the local government to seal it,” he said.
The congregation supports the police acting with humanitarian intentions to facilitate the Ahmadiyya community. If dialogue is to occur, they also urge that hearts be pure.
“So that the forum can be constructive. So that the Ahmadiyah congregation can understand the motives of the local government’s actions,” he said.
Meanwhile, logistical needs within the mosque complex remain sufficient and secure. “Logistical needs are guaranteed through the police, not the local government,” he said.
Currently, there are still 22 Ahmadiyah members who are holding out, they refused to be evacuated by the Sat Pol PP or the police after their place of worship was fenced off with zinc on Thursday (4/4) evening.
