KBR, Ciamis – Social relations between Ahmadiyah residents around the Nur Khilafat Mosque in Ciamis, West Java, are considered to be unproblematic.

Nur, a neighbor of the Ahmadiyah community, said that the Ahmadiyah congregation has a good relationship with the surrounding residents. Nur even said that the Ahmadiyah Muslim congregation has never disturbed the local residents because they participate in various community activities.

“I have an Ahmadiyah neighbor, near my house over there. The relationship is good, the neighborhood relationship is smooth, they participate in social gatherings and all kinds of things,” Nur said when met at the edge of the mosque.

Although Ahmadiyah and non-Ahmadiyah Muslims worship in their respective mosques, this does not prevent them from visiting each other during Islamic holidays, such as the Isra Miraj celebration, tahlilan, or funeral ceremonies.

Another resident, Alis, said he was never worried about the presence of the Ahmadiyah mosque in front of his shop. He admitted that he was worried about the intolerant group that had come before the Nur Khilafat closing.

“I was afraid when they came. Afraid of being attacked.”

Previously, the Ciamis district government used the excuse of community unrest when closing the Nur Khilafat Mosque. The government accused the Ahmadiyah Muslim congregation at the mosque of closing themselves off to local residents.
