KBRN, Jakarta: The 2024 State of the Global Islamic Economy Indicator (SGIE) report, released by DinarStandard on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 said that  Indonesia has achieved the number one global ranking in the rapidly advancing Muslim fashion (modest fashion) industry.

“This achievement serves as a stepping stone to leap higher and for Indonesia to play a leading role in shaping an inclusive, innovative, and civilized future for the global halal economy,” said , Head of the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan in his statement on Wednesday as reported by antaranews.com.

This accomplishment is largely due to the government’s serious efforts in fostering the national halal industry ecosystem.

Specifically in the Muslim fashion sector, the Indonesia Global Halal Fashion (IGHF) program has played a critical role. IGHF itself is a collaborative effort involving the government, textile industry players, designers, and halal fabric producers across Indonesia.

“Indonesia’s achievement as the top-ranked country in the modest fashion sector is a tangible result of the IGHF program, which we implemented in five countries,” said Muhammad Aqil Irham, Main Secretary of BPJPH.

Aqil said that it began with a fashion week event in Indonesia in March 2024, then in Malaysia in August 2024, followed by London, Milan, and Paris in September 2024.

He further said that strengthening the Muslim fashion product industry ecosystem is being carried out in preparation for the mandatory halal certification for consumer goods, including fashion products, which will come into effect in October 2026.

This strengthening of the Muslim fashion industry starts from the upstream sector, focusing on access to raw materials, production, branding, as well as exhibition and promotion activities.

The upstream sector begins with halal-certified textile and fabric products, which are crucial for facilitating Muslim fashion production and are then supported by optimal promotion. Overall, Indonesia maintained its third-place global ranking in the 2024 SGIE report.

Indonesia also achieved significant improvements in other sectors. In Muslim Friendly Tourism, Indonesia jumped to second place, a remarkable rise from not being in the top 10 in 2023.

In the pharmaceutical and cosmetics sector, Indonesia also climbed significantly to second place, from fifth in 2023, trailing only Malaysia which holds the top spot. Meanwhile, in the Islamic finance sector, Indonesia secured sixth place.

However, in the halal food sector, Indonesia dropped from second place in 2023 to fourth. In the media and recreation sector, Indonesia also fell from sixth place last year to seventh. ***
