I hope you had the chance to enjoy some quality time with friends, family, and loved ones over the Easter weekend.
It was sad to hear about the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. I know that his humility and leadership encouraged so many of us, of all faiths and none. So often he demonstrated his love for others, for example by washing the feet of young prisoners or embracing the sick. His compassion was an example to all of us.
Our town has a strong sense of community spirit, with people who look out for one another and support good causes. I recently attended the first ever Audentior Golf Cup, organised in support of the Watford Community Fund. This fund supports incredible work in our community. Last year the fund distributed over £50,000 to support local projects and organisations that are making a real difference in our community.
One of our brilliant local charities is Electric Umbrella. They do so much to create opportunities for everyone, regardless of ability, to share in the joy of music. In a few weeks’ time they will appear in the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent. I know our town will be tuning in with pride, eagerly watching the live broadcast and showing their support. Do make sure that you vote for them so that they can be one of the finalists!
As we celebrate these positive contributions, it’s equally important we remain united and stand against those who wish to divide our community. I was deeply shocked by the recent desecration of the Muslim graves at the Carpenders Park Lawn Cemetery. Hate, division and criminal acts such as this have no place in our town. I know that our whole town stands together in condemning such actions.
