Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk ( BSI ) noted that there are 21 million Muslims in Indonesia who are actually able to perform the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
“Of the total population of Indonesia, Muslims are around 200 million. There are 21 million Indonesians who, if seen from their profile, are capable of performing the hajj,” said BSI President Director Hery Gunardi in a Hearing (RDP) with Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Central Jakarta, Wednesday (11/13).
“However, only 10.9 million (Indonesian Muslims) or 53 percent have hajj savings,” he continued.
Hery noted that half of the 10.9 million people were BSI customers. In detail, there are 5.4 million Muslims who are hajj savings customers at the state-owned bank.
He said the growth of hajj funds in Indonesia is indeed quite high. For example, when compared to the 2023 achievement of only 4.97 million hajj savings customers at BSI.
Meanwhile, in the 2022 period there were 4.62 million customers. In fact, in the previous year there were still 4.38 million Muslims who had opened hajj savings at this state-owned bank.

“The growth of the Hajj funds has experienced quite good growth, more than 16 percent,” he said.
“We also see that most of these (BSI hajj savings customers) come from payroll customers. So, BSI payroll customers now number 1.2 million and we are pursuing some of them to get hajj savings from BSI,” added Hery.
