The second season of Al-Imam El-Tayyeb will be broadcast by several local and Arab TV channels throughout the holy month.

Egyptian state’s TV Channel 1 and Al Hayah TV Network will broadcast the programme daily at 5:30pm and 2:25pm respectively, while Abu Dhabi TV will screen it at 6:30pm, Abu Dhabi time.

“The topic of the episodes in this blessed month will revolve around women’s rights in Sharia (Islamic law) and among other issues,” El-Tayyeb, the head of the world’s leading Sunni Islamic institution, said in the first episode.

He added that misrepresentations of Islam’s view of women are based on “sophistical objections that stem from western agendas, cunning plans and money earmarked to portray Islam in an ugly image.”

The programme will refute misrepresentations surrounding Islam’s view of women.

It will also debunk attitudes and traditions that undermine women’s rights, which are mistakenly believed by some as part of Sharia, Sout Al-Azhar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The grand imam will also highlight how Islam honoured women and how the religion’s philosophy is focused on building gender equality

El-Tayyeb is known globally for promoting tolerance and coexistence among people of different religions.

In 2019, he and the Vatican’s Pope Francis signed the Document of Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together with the aim of advancing this goal.

El-Tayyeb has served as grand imam of Al-Azhar since 2010 and is also the chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders.
