H.R.H. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad bin Talal of Jordan

Pope Benedict XVI
When I listen to the Friday Sermons of H.H. Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (ra) giving us so much details of the lives of so many companians of the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be on him, the thought comes to mind that we know so many details of the lives of our beloved Prophet, sa, and his companians, while we know nothing of our own ancesters in Europe around the same time period.
It also reminds me of the meeting between H.R.H. Prince Ghazi bin Mohammad bin Talal of Jordan and Pope Benedict XIV in Amman, Jordan, which I had the honour and pleasure to participate in.
If you ask me what His Holyness the Pope spoke I must say that I can’t remember, it was some kind of polite diplomatic bla-bla, if I may say so, without any particular meaning that would stay in my mind.
The address of H.R.H. Prince Ghazi, however, was strikingly interesting. He knew exactly what happened in ancient times, what his ancestors and the ancestors of others in the same room did. I am quoting from his speech:
Many of them (Christians, present here) are descended from the Ancient Arab Ghassanid and Lakhmid Tribes, and they have throughout history shared the fate and the struggles of their Muslim fellow tribesmen. Indeed, in 630 CE during the Prophet Muhammad’s own lifetime — may peace and blessings be upon him — they joined the Prophet’s own army (led by his adopted son Zeid ibn Al-Haritha and his cousin Jafar bin Abi Taleb) and fought against the Byzantine army of their fellow Orthodox at the Battle of Mutah (it is because of this battle that they earned their tribal name “‘Uzaizat” which means “the reinforcements” — and Latin Patriarch Fuad Twal himself comes from these tribes); (the Latin Patriarch who was sitting in the fron line with the Pope).
Who of us knows in detail what happened to our ancestors in the year 630 CE?
