Community rallies around Mosque

    Rev. The event was in response to bacon being found by the mosque’s front door and in the parking lot Saturday morning.

Following a suspected hate crime incident there on Saturday, nearly 80 people turned out in a show of support Sunday for the Masjid AbuBakr Al-Seddiq Islamic Center in downtown Rochester.

Officials with the center found bacon in the parking lot and in the front door alcove of the center. Muslims cannot eat nor handle pork under their religious tenets. The incident has prompted a police investigation. The Council on American-Islamic Relations of Minnesota called on local and federal law enforcement to investigate the incident as a possible hate crime.
