Countering terrorism

Apr 30,2018 – JORDAN TIMES – EDITORIAL

The Aqaba meetings on ways and means to sustain the efforts against global and regional terrorism ended on Sunday, with a broad meeting of the minds between the participants, on how best to build on the current efforts to defeat terrorism and radicalism.

His Majesty King Abdullah attended the meetings which were also attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein and senior military, security and political officials representing Southeast Asian countries, the UN, EU and NATO.

The meetings were valued as a big success by the participants. Jordan and Japan co-chaired the Aqaba forum which was initially launched by His Majesty King Abdullah  in 2015 to bolster security and  military   cooperation and coordination between nations to counteterrorism with a holistic approach that combines military, security, political and even economic policies and measures.

The participants have not forgotten that terrorism is a hydra that has many heads and may indeed subside for a limited time in some areas of the world only to rise again in another with a vengeance.

That is why regional and international  vigil must be maintained and sustained for a long time. Terrorism is known to  strike again and again in one region or another if countries relax their vigilance.

That is why the Aqaba meetings are just one chain in a long chain  of follow-up efforts that must be pursued relentlessly. For the time being the Middle East is the hub for terrorism,  and is projected to continue to pose threats to regional and international peace and security.

Jordan has often sounded the alarm about the continued threats of terrorism and radicalism; holding the Aqaba meetings with international and regional communities is a way of adopting Jordan’s vision on the dangers of terrorism.

  1. Unfortunately there is a lot of hypocritical talk here. If Jordan was ‘all out’ against terror why did they allow supplies to reach the militants through their borders? Why did they allow medical treatment of militants in their hospitals, to send the terrorists back to fight again? Open talk is one thing and what is done secretly is another. Same thing with all players, including and especially of course the USA.

  2. HYPOCRITE IS THE MAIN PROBLEM IN ARAB MUSLIM LEADERS.!!
Yes agree with Rafiq, most Islamic leaders are hypocrites thay is why Allah have been punishing them severely—there is no permanent peace.
    Allah say in Al Quran
And among those Arab who are around you there are hypocrites, and among the people of Madinah as well. They are adamant on hypocrisy. You do not know them. We know them. We will chastise them twice, then they shall be driven to a terrible punishment (in the Hereafter). QS 9;101.
CHRISTIAN ARE MORE MATURE AND WISER THAN MUSLIM COMMUNITIES.

We should learn from Christian conflict between Catholic and Protestant in the past in Europe, 700 years ago, hundreds thousand people died and millions people left their home and escaped to other countries. Now both communities Catholic and Protestant can live in peace, harmony, prosperity and productive way because both sides accepted the differences and respect one another. They really obey Allah’s laws better than Muslim.

The best solution of religious conflict in Syria, and Middle East, all Muslim Clerics from Sunni and Shia should accept the differences of interpretation of Islamic teaching and respect and love one another.

    All love ❤️

    • Well, you did not comprehend my comments fully. Hypocrites are not only the Arab leaders, after all they follow their Western ‘masters’. Hypocrites are also the – for instance – Americans, who claim to ‘bomb for humanitarian purposes’. To bomb for democracy is like to rape for virginity (some people said). Not something I usually repeat, but may be you will get the point now. Christian countries are the Mother of all Hypocrites! See what they did and are doing in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, etc. etc. etc. Using nice words for public consumption and supplying death in reality.

      • Rafiq—wrote. Christian countries are the Mother of all Hypocrites—-

Rafiq—-the truth is christian countries are much better than Islamic Arab countries
        What proofs;
        1. Million Muslim enjoy working in Christian countries
        2. Millions young Muslim enjoy studying in Christian countries
        3. Million Ahmadiyyah Muslim enjoy living in Christian countries.
        4. Many countries want to buy US’s technology, even though expencive, ( unfortunately they do not know to use guns or arms properly, they kill their own citizen or kill each other. Arab kill other Arab. This is Arab culture .

        5. Finally Rafiq—- because of the true constitution, very Islamic, Allah bless Christian countries.

        6. For us as Muslim are shameful indeed, but this is the true fact— we have to tell the truth, even bitter..

Let us correct our mistake, our religion in order we can show Islam us a great religion again.

        Was Salam ❤️

      • The truth is when we practic ce equal justice. Yes, approve what is good but also expose what is not. You are always only blaming one side and generalizing as such, which is not equal justice.

  3. INNALILAHI WAINNA LILAHI RAJIIUN !
What is wrong Muslim kill innocent people in Mosque??

Blast kills at least 24 in northeast Nigeria: police
Residents say two suicide bombers detonated explosives at a mosque and a market in Mubi town.==

Those Muslim who keep silent not to fight the extremist Muslim are the extremist’s sympathizer. They are dangerous for humanity. Becareful and watch them in your area.

    All love ❤️

    • Practically all Muslims are against such acts of terror. Does that mean that in every single instance we need to speak out? No. We have spoken out against terror again and again. One more terror ? Yes, already spoken out against it ! Just read The Muslim Times and you will see.
