Daily Times: ISLAMABAD: Islamic Ideology Council’s (IIC) Chairman Maulana Muhammad Sheerani on Wednesday provisionally termed the Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO) and National Security Policy against the shariah, media reports said.
The final edict will be announced after consulting the legal, defence and political experts. Maulana Sheerani also said that women cannot be judges in the cases of hudood and qisas. Addressing a press conference after a two-days-long session of the IIC, Maulana Sheerani said that the army’s job is to protect the borders. He told the press that no correspondence of Arsalan Iftikhar against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was received by the council. He said one correspondence against Imran Khan was received without signature, but it was not reviewed.
Sheerani said that the IIC would present its recommendations if a resolution is moved against any of its members. He said the president of Pakistan can take action against the IIC members on the council’s recommendations. Maulana Sheerani also said that a woman cannot be a judge in hudood and qisas cases. He said a marriage is not annulled if a woman leaves Islam, but it is annulled if the husband leaves Islam. The IIC called for a ban on religious hate speech and greater harmony between sects ahead of the Islamic month of Muharram.
