Jakarta – BRIN Public Relations. Head of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Organization (OR IPSH), Ahmad Najib Burhani, highlighted the great potential for philanthropy in Indonesia which is based on the spirit of mutual cooperation regardless of religion and race. However, the concept of philanthropy from the Ahmadiyah and Shia communities is not widely known to the public. For this reason, through discussions on Ahmadiyah and Shia Philanthropy which were held on Tuesday (11/06), Najib hopes that he can reveal the strength and philanthropic potential of these two communities. The discussion activity presented several main speakers to discuss the discussion topic in depth, namely Achmad Supardi as Naib Amir of the Indonesian Ahmadiyah Jemaat and Husain Shahab as Director of the Mustad’afin Fund Foundation, as well as researchers at the Research Center for Religion and Beliefs (PRAK) of the Research and Innovation Agency National (BRIN).
Achmad Supardi conveyed a picture of solemnity in philanthropy, both at national and international levels. Regarding the discussion theme, he stated categorically that Ahmadiyah is not a political movement and has absolutely no political goals. He explained that the Ahmadiyah congregation supports the revival of Islam in the spiritual field which emphasizes the importance of living in peace, upholding justice, striving for purity in daily life, and love for others. This right is in accordance with the motto that the congregation is known for, namely Love for All, Hatred for None, which means love for everyone and hatred for no one.
Achmad also explained the philanthropy of the Ahmadiyah congregation in miniature. He describes in the miniature as a spiritual organization in the Islamic religion which describes the spirit of sacrifice, whether of wealth, time or soul. In its concept, Ahmadiyah pledges its promise. The foundation of Ahmadiyah philanthropy regarding giving of wealth, namely the commands of the Koran, then the Prophet Muhammad, and then the call of the founder of the Ahmadiyah congregation.
He also revealed the mechanism for managing the Ahmadiyah congregation in each country that has authority. This consists of the national amir, naib amir of the mall, mall secretary of the general management, amin/treasurer, muhasib of the grand management, financial committee, internal auditor, external auditor, as well as others in accordance with the types of distribution determined through the national deliberation mechanism (shura assembly national). The types of distribution include the health, education and social sectors, both national and international, as well as humanitarian social institutions (humanity first), the missionary sector and the environmental sector.
Meanwhile, Husain Shahab said that the Mustad’afin Fund Foundation is not part of the Indonesian Ahlubait community organization (ormas). In fact, the birth of this foundation was earlier than the birth of the Ahlubait Indonesia mass organization. He further said that this foundation was built by several volunteers belonging to the Shiite sect. However, his vision is to join the Indonesian government’s program to improve prosperity and elevate the dignity of the Indonesian people, especially the quality of the economy and education.
“This foundation was established solely to become a bridge between muzaki and the poor in Indonesia,” said Husain. He also explained that the foundation operates for the public regardless of background and has no religious barriers. This foundation has two legalities, namely national legal legality to the Ministry of Justice and legality from Marja Shia.
The philanthropic concept uses the philanthropic concept of zakat and khums. This means that one fifth or 20% in Islamic legal terminology, namely certain items that a person acquires as wealth, must be paid. Sources of funds are divided into two. First, the sharia of waqf, grants, zakat and alms. Second, social funds are funds from donations from BUMN, state institutions and donors.
On this occasion, Prabowo Setyabudi, a researcher at the BRIN Research Center for Society and Culture (PRMB), argued that this philanthropy is starting to develop, but is not yet familiar among the public. The hope is that this philanthropy can be felt by the community in the long term. Meanwhile, the end of the philanthropic process can be developed. Not only does it help socially, but it can also be creative and innovative and open philanthropy so that it can be felt by the wider community.
Furthermore, Fatimah Zuhrah, as a researcher at the BRIN Research Center for Religion and Beliefs (PRAK), revealed the results of her research related to Shia philanthropy. This research focuses on disaster philanthropy institutions. Philanthropic actions carried out by the Shia community are comprehensive for all people regardless of differences in religion, race and ethnicity. “They carry out philanthropic actions with the capital of sincere charity with appropriate goals and objectives, as well as the principle of helping those in need and humanitarian principles,” he explained.
Meanwhile, another PRAK researcher, Siti Ateqoh, conveyed that the research was carried out with the vision of being a driver of independence framed in Islamic teachings. Its mission is to develop models of community empowerment in the fields of education and health, while its funding sources are obtained from khums, zakat, infaq and alms. Thus, the research results are in accordance with speaker Husain Shahab.
Finally, the Head of the BRIN Research Center for Religion and Beliefs, Aji Sofanudin, said that it turns out that researchers already have data on the philanthropy of various mass organizations. He said that the designations or terms in philanthropy are quite diverse, such as ziswaf, chandah, khums, and so on.
In conclusion, Achmad Supardi conveyed the site address chandah.go.id. On this site there is a mechanism that applies a special organizational structure, with controls regarding accountability that apply to members who already have an ID. Then, to carry out research on the Ahmadiyah base, according to him, he can coordinate with regions in West Java, Central Java and East Java. Supardi also explained that there are 420 branches spread across Indonesia.
Likewise, Husain Shahab said at the end of the conclusion that the Mustad’afin Fund Foundation does not represent 100%. Not all Shia khums are included in this foundation. This is because it requires both Indonesian legality and sharia legality, because wakalah funds are not only held by mustad’afin funds. “And every country has a wakalah marja to manage Shia interests,” he said.
