YLBHI Asks Jokowi to Intervene Regarding Ahmadiyya Mosque

YLBHI together with a number of civil society organizations made an open letter to President Joko Widodo regarding the polemic of sealing the Ahmadiyya mosque.

Jakarta – The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) together with a number of civil society organizations made an open letter to President Joko Widodo regarding the polemic of sealing the Ahmadiyya mosque in Sintang, West Kalimantan.

They called on Jokowi to take a stand to stop all forms of discriminatory and intolerance carried out by the Sintang Regency Government. Ahmadiyya Mosque which was sealed on August 14, 2021 is located in Balai Harapan Village, Tempunak Subdistrict, Sintang Regency.

“We ask President Joko Widodo to order his ranks, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Indonesian Police Chief to immediately stop discriminatory and intolerance actions committed by the Sintang and Forkompimda Government,” said Muhammad Isnur, Chairman of Advocacy for YLBHI in an interview on Tagar TV YouTube Channel, Friday, August 19, 2021.

He said his insistence was based on two things. First, the sealing of the Ahmadiyya mosque was carried out at the demands of a community group on behalf of the Sintang Regency Muslim Alliance which rejected the existence of the Ahmadiyya Jama’at. Second, the Sintang Government actively commits discriminatory acts and intolerance against the Ahmadiyya Jama’at Sintang Regency.
