A Muslim woman confronts a man targeting children with anti-Semitic abuse on London train

London (CNN) A man has been arrested after a video capturing anti-Semitic abuse targeting Jewish children on the London Underground went viral.

British Transport Police said the man, whose name was not released, was arrested in Birmingham on Saturday evening on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offense.

The police said the incident happened on a London underground train around midday on Friday and was captured in a video that was widely circulated on social media.
The footage, originally shared by one of the passengers, shows a man reading anti-Jewish Bible passages to a young boy wearing the kippah.

The video then shows the man threatening fellow passengers who tried to intervene in the situation. Later, a woman wearing a hijab — named by the PA news agency as Asma Shuweikh — confronts him. CNN was unable to reach Shuweikh.

The mother-of-two, from London, told PA she knew she “had to confront him” when she saw what was happening.

“I would have loved more people to come up and say something, because if everyone did, I do not think it would have escalated in the way that it did,” she told the agency.

“Being a mother-of-two, I know what it’s like to be in that situation and I would want someone to help if I was in that situation,” she said.

  1. For a child this type of scenario can be very traumatizing. The mother did the right thing by speaking up. I agree with her that others should have spoken up to. If everyone stands together and does not tolerate this type of hate towards religion, big impacts can be made. This is a world where everyone has the right to follow their own religion and if that’s not happening everywhere, it should be.

  2. This can be traumatizing for children. I think, others should’ve also spoken up. This lady helped the child. The world we are in today is a free world. Everyone must have tolerance and not hatred for other religions.

  3. This is an empowered Muslim woman who understands the importance of speaking up against injustices. May God bless her and make people understand that humanity does not have a religion. The One and True God is the same God for all.
No one is to interfere between His creation and Himself.

  4. it is unfortunate that such things do happen, if our own child was in such a situation would we just stand there and watch? I believe the woman did the right thing by confronting the man and helping the child. We must tackle negativity in the most peaceful way possible and Just standing there, watching someone being abused is definitely not it.

  5. More power to Asma Shuweikh…. she did the right thing and she was on the right spot on the right time. Asma just played her role like an umbrella and saved the kids from being bullied on the religious base. Everyone has a right to keep his opinion and it must be respected by others no matter which religion one belongs. Humanity first and my vote is for this age of anxiety and for the harmonious multi cultural society which is like a bunch of flowers of different colors. God bless and save all of us from all evils.
