Imrana Alamgir hopes to unite Hamilton’s diverse faith communities on Oct. 5.
Alamgir, a member of the non-profit Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association of Hamilton, is organizing an Islamic Heritage Month celebration at the Stoney Creek Municipal Service Centre.
The women-and-children-only event will include a presentation entitled, “Islam’s Response to World Contemporary Issues.”
The afternoon will also feature a discussion, question-and-answer session, refreshments and information booths about other religions.
In 2007, the federal government established October as Islamic Heritage Month, recognizing, “the important contributions of Canadian Muslims to Canadian society, the cultural diversity of the Canadian Muslim community, and the importance of Canadians learning about each other to foster greater social cohesion.”
In the spirit of diversity, Alamgir hopes to promote peace and understanding, while helping to dispel misconceptions and stereotypes about Islam.
“It’s a good opportunity to learn about each other’s religions and teachings,” said Alamgir. “There are some misconceptions in the world about Islam. And it’s only because people have a lack of knowledge about Islam. These programs provide an opportunity for people to come and learn about the true teachings of the religion and clarify their minds.”
Along with recognizing Islamic Heritage Month, Alamgir said next month’s event should be informative and educational.
“We want to celebrate with everyone,” said Alamgir. “Because Islam loves all the religions. Islam accepts all the prophets. So why not invite all religions to display their booths too?”
The Oct. 5 event runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m., with in-person registration beginning at 1:30 p.m. Participants can also register online at islamheritagemonth2019.eventbrite.ca.
The Stoney Creek Municipal Service Centre is located at 777 Highway 8. Admission, parking and refreshments are free.

Great initiative! May there be inclusiveness among all religion and all people of the world. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is setting up displays and exhibition in various areas, such as in schools to inform and educate people on the beautiful religion of Islam.
There will be a display at the York Region District School Board offices in Aurora organized by the Ahmadiyya Women’s Association, starting October 21st until the end of the month. Make sure to pass by to check it out.
These events bring opportunities to help people and understand the true teachings of Islam.
We pray it will promote peace and understanding about Islam.

True that these types of events can help to provide better understanding about religion and can help in removing misconceptions about Islam .

This a very good effort by the Ahmadiyya Muslim community.This kind of forum gives opportunity to the people of different religions to figure out how we should work together to build a better world and removes many misconceptions about Islam.
