Pakistan, Saudi Arabia signed three agreements: Fawad Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday said that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have signed “three grant agreements”, saying that the country is bringing a major investment in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridors projects.

He was addressing a press conference of federal ministers following the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Chaudhry also said an important Saudi delegation, comprising energy, petroleum ministers as well as the country’s investment chief, will reach Pakistan on Sunday for talks.

“Saudi wants to bring a major investment in CPEC and this has begun,” he said.

He also said the government has decided to formulate a comprehensive policy on Afghan refugees before next extension of their stay in Pakistan in June next year.

“Either we can let things be or we do something about it,” he said about the issue.

The minister said an appointment has also been made for the DG financial monitoring position at the State Bank with regards to FATF matters.

In addition, he said the first part of Federal Board of Revenue reforms has been completed and Finance Minister Asad Umar will soon present the details. The government is going to launch an operation against the 100 biggest defaulters of FBR, he added.

Anti-encroachments drives will also be launched in Karachi like in Islamabad.

Chaudhry said his government aims to strengthen the Right to Information Act, which he said is weak as compared to the one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“This is important for democracy and also to facilitate journalists to get access to information,” he added.
