The United States’ decision to unilaterally withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal will only create more instability and conflicts, presidential spokesperson İbrahim Kalın said late Tuesday.

“The multilateral deal will continue with other signatories,” Kalın said in a tweet after Trump’s announcement, saying the decision would likely open up “new conflicts”.

The spokesperson also reiterated that Turkey will continue to resolutely oppose nuclear weapons of all types.

Despite calls from many of its allies, Trump announced Tuesday he was pulling the U.S. out of the 2015 agreement.

Trump said the U.S. would restore punitive sanctions on Tehran, after he concluded “that we cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement.”

On the topic of sanctions, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said that Turkey will continue its trade with Iran as much as possible and will not be answerable to anyone else.

“From now on, we will carry out our trade with Iran, within the possible framework, until the end, and we will not give account to anyone for this,” Zeybekci said in an interview with broadcaster CNN Turk.

Turkey and Iran are striving to develop pragmatic relations with each other, particularly over Syria which borders both countries, despite a long-standing, reciprocal distrust.
