Ted Talks: How to be Happy?

Epigraph:

By the fleeting Time, surely, man is in a state of loss, except those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to accept truth, and exhort one another to be steadfast. (Al Quran, Surah Al ‘Asr)

  1. The right to happiness seems to be a very modern concept. It often means putting the self before others, and can be the cause of much unhappiness, such as when women or men say they have a right to happiness at the expense of their children.

One should not aim for happiness, but rather contentment. Happiness is not a continuous experience, but changes with different situations. Taking pleasure in other’s happiness is reflected happiness, and that is the best. It’s altruism, as opposed to selfishness.
