5 facts on how Americans view the Bible and other religious texts

This year, the Jewish festival of Passover – April 10 to 18 – coincides with the Christian celebration of Easter. And Easter, somewhat unusually, falls on April 16 in both the Orthodox and Western calendars.

Both Passover and Easter are based on biblical accounts. Passover commemorates the Israelites’ Exodus from Egypt, as described in the Hebrew Scriptures. Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus, as described in the Christian Gospels. In this important season for both traditions, here are five key facts about Americans and their holy texts.

1. About a third of Americans (35%) say they read scripture at least once a week, while 45% seldom or never read scripture, according to 2014 data from our Religious Landscape Study. Frequency of reading scripture differs widely among religious groups. Majorities of Jehovah’s Witnesses (88%), Mormons (77%), evangelical Protestants (63%) and members of historically black Protestant churches (61%) say they read scripture at least once a week. By contrast, 65% of Jews say they seldom or never read scripture.

2. Three-quarters of Christians say they believe the Bible is the word of God. Eight-in-ten Muslims (83%) say the Quran is the word of God, according to the 2014 survey. Far fewer Jews (37%) say they view the Torah as the word of God.

  1. From my view:
God say in Bible and Al Quran: God will protect His words or His books. No one can falsify His Books. Once His book was published to public, no one can falsify it.
If we are a good faith and believe what God’s saying, we have to do submission to God.

But we use our mind logically, it was impossible the ancient clerics to collect all God’s words from people who memorized. Must be some ( 1,2,3 verses were missing).

How ever, Bible and Al Quran we have today, are the best that we can have. We have to follow it.

    • God (Allah) says that He will protect Al Quran. He did not say that He would protect the Bible. There is no ‘original’ bible available. The Bible is not, like the Quran, the direct revelation from Allah (God).

      • @ Raffiq.
        1. Allah say in Bible that Allah will protect His words .
We have to believe as a good Believer

        2. Allah say in Al Quran will protect His Words too, we have to believe as a good believer.

Allah and Prophets never say that His previous Books has been falsified by men. So we have to believe His word as good believer.
Those who accuse His books are not His words anymore, they do not believe in God’ d word. They believe men ( iman)’s word. A Imam tell them that God failed to protect the purity of Bible. In other words they believe a idol than God alone, they fall inti unforgivable syrik.

This video is very interesting to watch and investigate from 2 Scholars ( Christian snd Islam) :

      • You are a better Christian than the Christians, because Christian scholars do not claim that the Bible is the word of God.

  2. The Bible is a book about God but not the words of God whilst the Quran is the all the words of God who is the creator of the heavens and the earth.
