Can science and faith coexist?
Not if you ask most people. Roughly six in 10 Americans said science and religion often conflict, according to a 2015 Pew Research Center poll.
But dig deeper into the data, and you’ll find two unexpected things:
1) Though a majority said the two conflicted, nearly seven in 10 said their own religious beliefs meshed just fine with science. And
2) Those who rarely attend religious services see more conflict than those who often do.
In other words, we believe other people have a problem meshing faith with science, even if that’s not necessarily the case. Particularly among those with strongly held religious beliefs.
Probably not the data you expected, huh?
