Reading the Quran and the Bible Literally Means Demons and Jinns Will Rule Humans

The real demons and jinns may be the scholars, who teach literal reading of the scriptures; they do exist

Written and collected by Zia H Shah MD, Chief Editor of the Muslim Times

Jesus had taken seven demons out of Mary Magdalene, according to the Gospels. (Luke 8:2) Have you ever considered, if the demons are literally so common and we do not have good quality Exorcists like Jesus and even his close disciples could not match his skills according to the Gospels, what would be the fate of many of the modern women?

About two-thirds of Americans completely or mostly agree that angels and demons play an active role in humans’ lives, according to a 2007 Pew Research survey. Mormons (88 percent), evangelical Christians (87 percent), and members of historically black churches (87 percent) were especially likely to agree with the idea that these beings are real.

According to Carol Kuruvilla in her article: 5 Things People Believe About Demons, Exorcisms and The Spirit World:

Pope Francis has paid special attention to demons, warning his flock to “look out because the devil is present.” Earlier this year, the Latin American pontiff officially recognized an international group of church-sanctioned exorcists — priests whom the Vatican believes have the power to cast out the devil. The International Association of Exorcists has approximately 250 exorcists working across 30 nations. Francis recently lauded the group for displaying the church’s ‘love for those possessed.’

Quora has the following to say about the jinns and the Muslim societies:

As for jinns, believing in the existence of jinns is not an article of faith, but the Quran mentions of their existence and also tells that Satan was a jinn. They are a creation that existed before human beings; it is made of waves of energy, as compared to the earthly elements which human beings are composed of. Jinns are the only creation, other than human beings, that have freedom to make decisions and choices like human beings. Once again, the Quran does not describe what kind of shape or form they have or how they look like. They can see human beings, learn human languages and understand them; but human beings cannot see them. They cannot have physical control on human beings (they cannot possess human beings, contrary to what many people believe) but they can cause thoughts to occur in human mind, without people realizing it. Evaluating and assessing a thought whether it is a good idea or should be rejected is all purely an independent human action, just as a thought or view can be suggested by other human beings and it is totally up to a person to accept or reject that suggestion or view.

jinn

Interesting, we have to be in presence of other humans to hear their ideas, but, jinns can put their ideas in our minds without our control. Unless the jinns know our thoughts, the kind of ideas they will put in our minds, may not match our own and may seem exotic. Some food for thought for those who believe in such jinns.

How many jinns are out there, anyways, and how many can team up in one human mind?

According to Pew Research Center, majority of the Muslims believe in the jinns.  The center states both the Quran and hadith make reference to witchcraft and the evil eye as well as to supernatural beings known in Arabic as jinn (the origin of the English word genie). To gauge how widespread belief in these supernatural forces is today, the survey asked Muslims separate questions about witchcraft, jinn and the evil eye (defined in the survey as the belief that certain people can cast curses or spells that cause bad things to happen). In most of the countries surveyed, roughly half or more Muslims affirm that jinn exist and that the evil eye is real. Belief in sorcery is somewhat less common: half or more Muslims in nine of the countries included in the study say they believe in witchcraft. At the same time, however, most Muslims agree that Islam forbids appealing to jinn or using sorcery. In all but one country surveyed, no more than one-in-five say that Islam condones people appealing to jinn. Similarly low percentages say the same about the use of sorcery.

Jinns

According to the Quran, God created jinn as well as angels and humans, if we read the scripture literally. Belief in jinn is relatively widespread – in 13 of 23 countries where the question was asked, more than half of Muslims believe in these supernatural beings.

In the South Asian countries surveyed, at least seven-in-ten Muslims affirm that jinn exist, including 84% in Bangladesh. In Southeast Asia, a similar proportion of Malaysian Muslims (77%) believe in jinn, while fewer in Indonesia (53%) and Thailand (47%) share this belief.

Across the Middle Eastern and North African nations surveyed, belief in jinn ranges from 86% in Morocco to 55% in Iraq.

Overall, Muslims in Central Asia and across Southern and Eastern Europe (Russia and the Balkans) are least likely to say that jinn are real. In Central Asia, Turkey is the only country where a majority (63%) of Muslims believe in jinn. Elsewhere in Central Asia, about a fifth or fewer Muslims accept the existence of jinn. In Southern and Eastern Europe, fewer than four-in-ten in any country surveyed believe in these supernatural beings.

In general, Muslims who pray several times a day are more likely to believe in jinn. For example, in Russia, 62% of those who pray more than once a day say that jinn exist, compared with 24% of those who pray less often. A similar gap also appears in Lebanon (+25 percentage points), Malaysia (+24) and Afghanistan (+21). In other words those who are worldly and secular are less indoctrinated by the irrational ideas of their clergy.

The survey also asked if respondents had ever seen jinn. In 21 of the 23 countries where the question was asked, fewer than one-in-ten report having seen jinn, while the proportion is 12% in Bangladesh and 10% in Lebanon.

This is reassuring, while the evidence is scant the belief is wide spread, because of the literal reading of the Quran by many a Muslim scholars, who teach these ideas to the masses. These scholars may be the real jinns that we need to be scared of.

It is important to note that while belief in jinn is widespread, relatively few Muslims in the countries surveyed believe it is an acceptable part of Islamic tradition to make offerings to jinn. Bangladesh is the only country surveyed in which more than a fifth of Muslims (28%) say appeals to jinn are acceptable. In 18 of the countries, no more than one-in-ten say this is an acceptable practice.

I provide an easy solution to the believing Christians and the Muslims to travel from the first century Jerusalem and seventh century Arabia to the 21st century global village, with its advanced science and technology and information age, where we have no need of jinns and demons and mental health issues can be understood and managed by modern psychology and psychiatry.

I believe those who believe in demons and jinns ought to defer to those who do not believe and there are significant portions in every Muslim country, see the table above. The believers owe it to their mental health to accept the reasoning and reality of those who deny existence of these supernatural creatures and should distance themselves from the scholars, who are giving them literal understanding of the Quran and the Bible.

Such an undertaking will be a great step forward for their mental health and progress of their progeny and will rescue them from the medieval mindset of jinns and demons.

  1. First of all do you understand what is Jinn? It’s not a ghost of dead people but it’s another being able to shape shift and generally invisible to humans and they can even live up to 1000 of years. And Allah said that various places between the earth and heaven has those kind of creation or superbeings some of them obey Allah are good Jinn and some of them disbelieve like Satan. Their are even various types of Jinn with different characteristics and abilities.

  2. If you read jinn’s description in Quora that I have quoted above then the jinn can put thoughts in human mind. In psychiatric literature it is called ‘thought interpolation.’

If multiple jinns can put their diverse ideas in human mind that is a perfect prescription for schizophrenia for each and every human. Schizophrenia is the medical term for what would in lay language be called madness.

Unless the Muslims begin to read the scriptures by giving preference to reason and logic rather than tradition and orthodoxy, madness will continue to rule our affairs, where ever we are in majority and run our own show. We may do well in the Western countries where the social, political and scientific paradigms are defined by the non-Muslims and we try to fit in and survive.

Peace and love and please try to wake up.

    • As I was reading the article, I was going to comment that those dangerous clerics are mainly responsible for planting such ideas into ignorant minds, and that mental health issues also play a large part. So I’m pleased to read your further comments which explain the subject well. Thank you.

  3. Jinn according to Quran is a creation that has been given free will and is responsible for their deeds; quite similar to human beings.

Quran distinguishes humans from jinn in that insan was created from clay but jinn created from fire.

Jinn does not refer to bacteria or various mental illness as proven by surah jinn. In surah jinn; they are clearly desrcibed as having their own volition and free will. Some jinn are righteous while others are unjust or ingrates.

Iblis is a jinn according to the Quran, he refused to obey God hence proving that jinn have conciousness and have responsibilites like human beings.

Hadith literature clearly show that jinn are a seperate creation who generally cannot be seen hence why they are called jinn. Also hadith works indicate that jinn have various abilities that are beyond the scope of science since science is based upon observation of natural phenoma not based upon the “unseen.”

  4. You and your literal reading, I hope and pray there is a better future for you. Tell me if and when multiple jinns start speaking in your mind, simultaneously, how would you keep your sanity?

    • It is not just a literal reading, it is the coherent reading of the quran based upon the creed of the great Imams. Also its based upon hadith and how the majority of the scholars understood it including the reformers (mujaddideen).

The fact that the quran explcilty states that iblis is a jinn clearly proves that jinn have free will and are held accountable to their actions quite similar to human beings.

Jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire. Some jinn are Muslims while others are disbelievers.
The most evil group amongst the jinn are called shayatin in the Quran.

      Evidence;

And also the Shayâtin from the jinns (including) every kind of builder and diver, [Surah 38:37]

      The Noble Qur’an – Al-An’aam 6:112
“And so We have appointed for every Prophet enemies – Shayâtin among mankind and jinns, inspiring one another with adorned speech as a delusion (or by way of deception). If your Lord had so willed, they would not have done it, so leave them alone with their fabrications.”

The above verses prove that jinn are seperate creation from humankind but they share similar aspects such as free will.

You asked ; “Tell me if and when multiple jinns start speaking in your mind, simultaneously, how would you keep your sanity?”

It should be noted that the evil suggestions of jinns are different from the usual perception of how we communicate. This is because the jinn are not a natural phenoma so cannot be understood based upon scientific enquiry.

      Quran gives us solutions;

      The Noble Qur’an – Fussilat 41:36
“And if an evil whisper from Shaitân tries to turn you away, then seek refuge in Allâh. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

      The Noble Qur’an – An-Nahl 16:99-100
He has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (Allâh).

  5. it seems you follow the methodology of the farabi’s philosophy in which he gave more importance to philosophy or opinions than to tradition and orthodoxy.

What is ironic is that your group admitted who were the reformers of Islam. E.g. 5th century ghazali, 6th razi, 7th Ibn taymiyya 8th ibn hajr and 9th suyuti.

The above five mujaddids clearly gave more importance to tradition and orthodoxy especially when it comes to matters of the ghaib. Ghazali, Razi and Ibn Taymiyya critcised farabi’s philosphy and refuted any group who alleged to use logic over revelation.

The above methodology also refutes your stance on miracles, creation of Adam and other aspects of creed.

  6. I am afraid you are obsessed with arguments from authority and cannot see with lenses of reason and rationality. You are quoting one authority after another of your liking.

Argument from authority is always a weak argument as your authority may not be infallible. No human is. Arguments from reason and logic are the way to go. Welcome to the 21st century.

You did not answer how you would keep sanity in face of multiple jinns speaking in your mind. You do believe that jinns can put ideas in human minds. In you tube there are so many videos how auditory hallucinations work in schizophrenics. If many jinns start speaking to you at the same time you will not be able to sleep or keep your sanity.

  7. it is ahmadis like you who are making a mokery of the holy Quran. ilks like you claim to be Muslims but oppose all the sahih teachings of the Prophet regarding miracles, creation of human, jinns and many other branches of iman.

Quran is explicit that jinn are real beings with free will who exist outside of our minds. Iblis is mentioned as a jinn. This alone refutes your whims about the unseen.

I learn Islam from the Quran and the prophetic teachings not from youtube videos. Arguments from the authority of the Prophet (peace be upon him) are amongst the strongest proofs regarding beliefs.

many heretics have come in the past claiming to use their reason or logic to distort the clear teachings of the Quran. Many of the reformers/mujaddids have refuted the deviant’s claims. The reformers showed that revelation and reason are compatible unlike what your group and similar to yours allege.

Ironically mirza ghulam of qadian was the silly one claiming to have a jinn friend called teechi teechi. Maybe thats where he got his satanic whispers from!

  8. A quote by the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad:

The Holy Qur’an is not matchless merely on account of the beauty of its composition, but is matchless on account of all its excellences which it claims to comprise and that is the truth, for whatever proceeds from God Almighty is not unique only on account of one quality but on account of every one of its qualities. Those who do not accept the Holy Qur’an as comprehensive of unlimited eternal truths and insights, do not value the Qur’an as it should be valued. A necessary sign for the recognition of the holy and true Word of God is that it should be unique in all its qualities, for we observe that whatever proceeds from God Almighty is unique and matchless even if it is only a grain of barley, and human powers cannot match it. … For instance, if the wonders of a leaf of a tree are investigated for a thousand years, that period would come to an end, but the wonders of the leaf will not come to an end. … The verse, “Say, ‘If every ocean becomes ink for the words of my Lord, surely, the ocean would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even though We brought the like thereof as further help;’” (18:110) supports this, for the whole of creation is Words of God….. Thus this verse means that the qualities of creation are without limit and endless.
Now when every created thing possesses unlimited and endless qualities and comprises numberless wonders then how could the Holy Qur’an, which is the Holy Word of God Almighty, be confined to the few meanings which may be set out in a commentary of forty or fifty or a thousand volumes, or could have been expounded by our lord and master the Holy Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be on him] in a limited period? To say so would almost amount to disbelief, if it is deliberately persisted in. It is true that whatever the Holy Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be on him] has set forth as the meaning of the Holy Qur’an is true and correct, but it is not true that the Holy Qur’an contains no more than the insights that have been set forth by the Holy Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be on him]. Such sayings of our opponents indicate that they do not believe in the unlimited greatness and qualities of the Holy Qur’an.
    [Karamat-us-Sadiqin, Ruhani Khaza’in, Vol. 7, pp. 60-62]

  9. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad claimed; “Now when every created thing possesses unlimited and endless qualities.”

The above statement is unproven and it contradicts reason.

Created things are limited hence its qualities will clearly be finite.

Anyways Main body of Muslim scholars have always stated that the Quran contains insights beyond the hadith literature. However the methodology of tafsir they suggested is that any new lessons or insights derived must not go against the established interpretations of the holy Prophet (peace be upon him) or the ijma of the pious sahaba.

Alsu sunnah ulama have written various tafsir literature and it obviously has insights which is not mentioned in hadith. The mufassirieen have done ijtihad based upon the coherence of the Quran and arabic language.
