WASHINGTON (Reuters) – First lady Michelle Obama made an impassioned case for embracing diversity and welcoming all religious groups on Friday in a not-so-veiled message to her husband’s successor two weeks ahead of Inauguration Day.
In what was billed as her last formal speech before President Barack Obama leaves office, the first lady said at an event honouring high school counsellors that the United States belonged to people from all backgrounds and walks of life.
“Our glorious diversity – our diversities of faiths and colours and creeds – that is not a threat to who we are, it makes us who we are,” she said.
The remarks were reminiscent of her vigorous campaign speeches in favour of Democrat Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election. President-elect Donald Trump has proposed building a wall along the border of Mexico and temporarily banning Muslims from entering the country.
“If you or your parents are immigrants, know that you are part of a proud American tradition: the infusion of new cultures, talents and ideas, generation after generation, that has made us the greatest country on earth,” Mrs. Obama said.
“If you are a person of faith, know that religious diversity is a great American tradition, too … And whether you are Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh – these religions are teaching our young people about justice and compassion and honesty.”

On October 27, 2016, the First Lady Michelle Obama made a passionate case for embracing diversity. Michelle Obama is a lawyer, writer, and also most importantly the First Lady of the United States. She had welcomed all religious groups on Friday just two weeks ahead of Inauguration Day. This was her last ceremonial speech before the president of the United States, Barack Obama leaves the office. This was an emotional day because knowing that a prodigious President of the United States will be leaving very soon from the office. The First Lady, Michelle Obama had said that this was a event honoring high school counselors that the United States belonged to people from all backgrounds and walks of life. The First Lady Michelle Obama was reaching to put out a dynamic message to the United States of America and wanting it to reach all corners of the country. The First Lady Michelle Obama had said, “Our glorious diversity of faiths and colors and creeds – that is not a threat to who we are, it makes us who we are.” These words are very desired especially living in era where there is a lot of hate going on towards our beliefs, faiths, and our skin color and a lot more. This was towards the President-elect Donald Trump who had made abhorrent statements like building a wall along the border of Mexico and temporarily banning Muslims from entering the country. The First Lady Michelle Obama also had said, “If you are a person of faith, know the religious diversity is great American tradition, too … And whether you are Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh – these religions are teaching are teaching our young people about justice and compassion and honesty.” This message is just simply beautiful and very passionate. The United States of America had always been an incredible country because of the new cultures, the capacity and ideas and each generation passing by are the ones making the change and making this country the greatest. We all have to come together and help humanity because once we all come together they will be more love and peaceful world to live in.
