Swachh Bharat: 1019-yr-old Nathrsha mosque cleaned

Trichy: The 1,019-year-old Nathrsha Mosque that stands in the heart of the city was cleaned by civic body workers on Saturday. As part of the Swachh Bharat mission, over 55 sanitary workers carried out the cleaning work, .The workers removed dust on pillars of the mosque and waste dumped around the place. A huge well inside the mosque that had become a dumping ground was also cleaned, said a senior civic official.

The mosque, one of the landmarks of Trichy, is believed to possess the remains of Nawab Muhammad Ali of Carnatic. It also has the body of Chanda Sahib, who was beheaded by a Thanjavur Maratha general.

As part of the drive, Uyyakondan Thirumalai temple was also being cleaned. It will go on till the month end. Over the past six days, Erumbeeswarar temple at Thiruverumbur, Panchavarna swamy temple at Woraiyur, Thiruvanaikaval Akilandeswari temple, Arockia Matha church at Melapudur and several other religious places were also cleaned .
