Forty state-run Iranian media outlets have jointly offered a new $600,000 bounty for the death of British Indian author Salman Rushdie, according to the state-run Fars News Agency.
Fars News Agency, which is closely affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), was among the largest contributors, donating one billion Rials – nearly $30,000.
The announcement coincides with the anniversary of the fatwa issued the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, the agency said.
Ayatollah Khomeini, the First Supreme Leader of Iran, issued the fatwa against Rushdie on charges of blasphemy for his novel The Satanic Verses on 15 February, 1989.
The Ayatollah called for the death of the book’s author along with anyone “involved in its publication”.
Hitoshi Igarashi, the Japanese translator of The Satanic Verses, was stabbed to death outside his office at Tsukuba University, the Italian translator Ettore Capriolo survived being stabbed at his apartment in Milan, and the novel’s Norwegian publisher was shot three times in the back and left for dead outside his home in Oslo.
Rushdie was put under police protection by the British government and spent many years in hiding.
While Iran’s former President Mohammad Khatami said the threat against the author was “finished” in 1998, the fatwa has never officially been lifted.

Blasphemy law is not Islamic law, there is no base in Al Quran.
So why do muslims murder blasphemers and apostates? Is it culural?

Please, do not spread misinformation about Islam. Nowhere does Islam say that blasphemers have to be put to death. Ali Hidaya, please refer me to even one verse in the Holy Qur’an where this is supposed to be the punishment for them?
In fact, there are verses to the contrary in the Holy Qur’an as well as the practices of the Holy Prophet (pbuh).
In the current Arab ‘scenery’, as far as I know, no baby girls have been put to death just for the sake of having been born females.
Yes, this was the case in pre-islamic Arabia, which Islam put an end to. Not the other way round.
But if what you are saying is true, then only a fractionally small percentage of Muslims understand your ‘true’ version of islam- surely it would be more rational to assume that your version of Islam is a gross distortion and/or a misunderstanding of Islam.

Those Hadith have been use by extremist Muslim to justify their action to kill those who convert his religion to other, those who insult Islam or prophet, those who claim the prophet after Prophet Muhammad, just like Muslim Ahmadiyah and Shia, those who do not follow their belief in Islam .
These false hadith are against the true Islamic teaching (Al quran ). that is why we see violence in Islamic countries today.
The fruit of hate teaching, judging each other among Muslim is coming to the fruition. Millions innocent people have been suffering, displacing and killed in Arab countries. I am very sad, pity and heartbreaking.
Arab’s scene is a disgrace today. You do not think so?
