Islam is once again all over the media due to the Paris attacks, where 12 people and two police officers were killed. Muslims worldwide are in the spotlight and their holy book, the Qur’an, and their Prophet, Muhammad, are being questioned in terms of their teachings.

It’s important to understand that extremists who attack the innocent do not represent Islam’s peaceful teachings. These extremists are very few in number and because of their actions, Muslims at large cannot be looked down upon and be judged. Similarly, if an apple tree produces some sour apples, the whole tree cannot be judged and questioned. Throughout his 23 years of ministry, peace and harmony was Muhammad’s message to the people of the world. For example, after the victory of Mecca, a staunch enemy of Muhammad who was responsible for the murder of his daughter — and who thus believed that he would be executed — was forgiven. Therefore, this sets the precedent that Muslims need to follow — that is, forgiveness and tolerance.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim community condemns these vicious attacks and prays for the victims’ families and friends.
