Prince Charles’s coronation service should be opened with a reading from the Koran, a senior Church of England bishop said yesterday.
The gesture would be a ‘creative act of accommodation’ to make Muslims feel ‘embraced’ by the nation, Lord Harries of Pentregarth said.
But critics attacked the idea, accusing the Church of ‘losing confidence’ in its own institutions and traditions.
Lord Harries, a former Bishop of Oxford and a leading CofE liberal thinker, said he was sure Charles’s coronation would give scope to leaders of non-Christian religions to give their blessing to the new King.
The former Bishop of Oxford, who continues to serve as an assistant bishop in the diocese of Southwark, made the suggestion about the Koran during a House of Lords debate. He told peers the Church of England should take the lead in ‘exercising its historic position in a hospitable way’.

The Quran is an important book. In fact it is the only revealed word of God. Reading of the Quran will bless prince Charles, God willing.
Quran is a spiritual book and it is not for politics. If any Muslims are yearning for politics through the Quran, they are mistaken.
The prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s. blessed the Christian king of Ethiopia and Quran (Surah Maryam) was recited in the court of that king. The King liked it very much.
The prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s. accommodated the delegation of 60 Christians from Najran to stay (live) inside his own mosque in Madinah and allowed them to offer their prayers inside the mosque as they liked.
These things are all part of history which has been much forgotten. Let the Royal family of United Kingdom revive a part of that good history.
@gulam, my question is hw is it possible for the prophet to accommodate 60 delegation of christians to offer their prayers as they liked in his own mosque! The point of correction here is, in chapter verse 18 Allah said ”& d@ the Mosques are Allah’s, therefore, call not upon any one with Allah”. Chriastians have their way of supplication contrary to the teaching of the Quran. Even the prophet himself said in the same chapter 72 verse 20 when Allah commanded him to say ”Say: I only call upon my lord, & i do not associate any one with him”. Christians associate Allah with Jesus or Trinity. Do u think prophet would allow such SHIRK to take place in a Mosque he personally built, when Allah had commanded him otherwise. I think there is point of correction here, please.

Islam is portrayed as a religion of “terror” and “killing”, yet this is just one of the most widely held misconceptions about Islam. Allaah Almighty states unambiguously in the Quran (what means): “Nor take life — which Allaah has made sacred — except for just cause. And if anyone is slain wrongfully, we have given his heir authority (to demand retaliation or to forgive): but let him not exceed bounds in the matter of taking life, for he is helped (by the Law).” [Quran 17:33]
Based on this verse, it is Islamically unlawful to murder anyone who is innocent of any crime. At this point, we would do well to remember the distinction between the Quran and Sunnah, and the Muslims. Only the Quran and Sunnah are guaranteed to be in accordance with what the Creator desires, whereas the Muslims may possibly deviate. Hence, if any Muslim kills an innocent person, that Muslim has committed a grave sin, and the action cannot be claimed to have been committed “in the name of Islam.”

Thank you Ismail Muhammad, I cannot be wiser than the prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s. He was kind to the delegation and he did (wisely) what was permitted at that time and the best way. We cannot deny that he accommodated the Christians in his own Mosque and he allowed them to pray inside the same mosque.
Even Abraham a.s. shouted (Azzana) and preached and invited and called all types of people to come to worship God Almighty, to come to Makkah, to visit the sacred house.
Though people who were called were not Muslims. The prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s. is a role model for all mankind. We should not question what he did, but rather we should try to copy his way of life.
