In January 2011, the governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer, was gunned down by one of his own security guards over a controversial move — opposing the blasphemy law in Pakistan. Although thousands of Pakistanis condemned this by attending his funeral and showing support on social media, religious fanatics hailed his murderer as a hero, recently naming a mosque after him.
As a Muslim, I stand firmly against blasphemy laws. My faith demands that I do so, for it repeatedly asks me to stand for justice and fight oppression.
The Quran shows us that even though God’s prophets were mocked and threatened, they never killed their accusers for hurting their “religious sentiments.” In fact, the Quran opposes any laws that restrain freedom of speech or would have someone killed over differences in belief. Rather, Quran 73:10 says, “Be patient over what they say, and leave them graciously.”

Our position on Hadiths
We have frequent comments about Hadiths and some of them are overly critical and do not offer a balanced view.
So, I need to post this comment, with slight variations, every so often, to give our readers a balanced and fair view about the collection of Hadiths.
We just have to understand and read the books of Hadiths, with better understanding and wisdom and not take every thing as ‘gospel truth.’
There are fabricated Hadith and then there are wonderful Hadiths.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community follows a simple matrix or yard stick that those Hadiths that cannot be harmonized with the Quranic teachings have to be laid aside.
Let me share with all readers, two very beautiful collections of Hadith:
1. Gardens of the Righteous by Imam Nawawi, translated into English by Sir Zafrulla Khan.
2. A Collection of Sayings of the Prophet Muhammad with Foreword by Mahatma Gandhi
Anyone who reads these collections, will find that there is a large collection of real gems of Hadiths, which we have to look for and find, from the vast collection, some of which are distasteful and a few real ugly!
I will soon, God willing, make a post to this effect and highlight it in our daily email as well.
Anything which supports Quran is acceptable. Everything else has to be rejected. No Islamic teaching can originate outside of the Quran.
Killing an innocent in the name of religion is unacceptable.
Love for all hatred for none
Such people are those who have eyes but they can’t see.
There are many tests for Hadith. I mention just two tests here.
1. Darayat. 2. Rawayat.
The test of Darayat means it will check the technicality (meaningfulness) of the Hadith with the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah and other true Hadith. If any Hadith fails this test then the second test (rawayat) is not carried out and the Hadith is rejected (Unless there is a misinterpretation or misunderstanding).
The second test is applied to check the names and ages of those who referred the tradition. If there is anything wrong about there time in life or their falsehood etc. the Hadith will be rejected.
It is wrong to throw away the books of Hadith just because of a few bad traditions. Hadith is a man made book describing the words and deeds of the prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s. But so is the Bible NT. Shall we throw away the Bible too? Not at all.
There are many wise words and guidance in the books of Hadith and Bible. There is no need to attack the books of Hadith.
There is enough and perfect guidance in the Quran. But the words and deeds of the prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s. same as his Sunnat are also important to know how he understood the Quran and how he implemented it; how he translated the verses of the Quran practically in his life time. The Sunnat is the practice of the prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s. and it precedes (takes priority) over any hadith. Hadith is useful after the Quran and Sunnat as a servant of the Quran and Sunnat.

Ghulam Sarwar, This is the 21st century and Muslims are still talking about “Blasphemy & Apostasy” and what has to be done “whether the person has to be killed or stoned to death or whipped” for so called “blasphemy/.apostasy against the Quran and Muhammad”.
This gives a licence to fanatics and mullahs to take the law into their own hands and issue edicts as to what is blasphemy or apostasy and what is not and innocent people are killed because of this..
Why can’t you’ll just let that person believe or not believe in what he/she wants to believe?
Interpretation of ANY Hadith which runs counter to the Glorious Qur’an is NOT ONLY UNISLAMIM, but also not acceptable to any rational muslim.

Ask any Muslim and he will tell you that since Torah and Injeel were collected and written by the people many decades after their Prophets, therefore they cannot be free of the personal opinions of the collectors and writers of these scripts.
Hadith were collected many hundreds of years after the Prophet (saw). So it is not possible to have any collection of Hadith which is free of personal bias of the collectors. It is a proven fact and accepted by all scholars that thousands of fabricated ahadith are in circulation and no collection of Ahadith is free from them.
Fairness demands that we apply the same standard to all such collections. Muslims are agreed and quick to reject the torah and injeel on this premise, but when it comes to hadith “aqeedat” makes them blind. Let us say the right thing. Hadith is not reliable.
So we must follow some principals to avoid mistake.
1) Any hadith which contradicts Quran cannot be accepted.
2) No Islamic teaching can be based entirely in hadith. It has to come from the Quran. If Quran does not say anything about it then we are free to decide. An example would be music. Most Muslim scholars prohibit music based upon hadith, when Quran is silent on this subject. Their edicts come from the hadith. These misguided scholars are just following their own desires. God has not prohibited music.
There are many other examples.
May God save us from the self serving leaders of our religion.
