Alcohol kills 3.3 million people worldwide each year, more than AIDS, tuberculosis and violence combined, according to the World Health Organization , warning that booze consumption was on the rise. Including drink driving, alcohol-induced violence and abuse, and a multitude of diseases and disorders, alcohol causes one in 20 deaths globally every year, the UN health agency said. “This actually translates into one death every 10 seconds,” Shekhar Saxena, who heads the WHO’s Mental Health and Substance Abuse department, told reporters in Geneva. Alcohol caused some 3.3 million deaths in 2012, WHO said, equivalent to 5.9 percent of global deaths (7.6 percent for men and 4.0 percent for women). 
In comparison, HIV/AIDS is responsible for 2.8 percent, tuberculosis causes 1.7 percent of deaths and violence is responsible for just 0.9 percent, the study showed. More people in countries where alcohol consumption has traditionally been low, like China and India, are also increasingly taking up the habit as their wealth increases, it said.

THE TEACHING ABOUT ALCOHOL AND PIG (HALAL FOOD)

ANCIENT INTERPRETATION; Often we hear that from extremist clerics that all foods are contained with alcohol and meat of pig are prohibited according their interpretation of Islam a time of Prophet Muhammad 1400 year ago.

At that time, there were no science and technology available to check out animal health.

MODERN INTERPRETATION IN 21ST CENTURY;BASED ON AL QURAN;
WHEREAS ALLAH AND PROPHET SAID THAT Muslim can drink little bit alcohol and the meat of pig. Look at these verses carefully. QS.2:219,[QS.2:173] [QS.5:3]. SO alcohol and pig’s meat are NOT unclean thing.

Verily, all kind of meat of animals and all kind of drinks that harm health of people is forbidden by Allah’s law.(alcohol and meat pig are just example).

Even though, government has no right to forbid people from eating the meat of pig and drinking from alcohol.
How ever, even the meat of pig and alcohol are forbidden in Islam, but Allah never asked Prophet Muhammad to punish those who still eat the meat of pig and those who drink alcohol.
All Allah’s law are just warning, there is NO compulsion / coercion in Islamic teaching. As Allah said clearly in Bible and Al Quran.QS 2;256.QS 90;10

alatif is advising the present day Muslims to eat a little bit of flesh of swine and drink a little bit of wine. alatif has given references from the Quran. I am surprised that no reference is given from the Bible on this subject, Please see one reference 2:173. But noteworthy is the verse 2:174 which is the next verse, all presented below:
[2:173] O ye who believe! eat of the good things We have provided for you, and render thanks to Allah, if it is He Whom you worship.
(That is the verse mentioned by alatif allowing Muslims to drink….)
[2:174] He has made unlawful to you only that which dies of itself, and blood and the flesh of swine, and that on which the name of any other than Allah has been invoked. But he who is driven by necessity, being neither disobedient nor exceeding the limit, it shall be no sin for him. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

In this verse, the flesh of swine is forbidden, except when any one is driven to extreme hunger and bad situation…. Every one understands that. But the theory of alatif is not understood. alatif has taken the last part of the verse only and omitted the forbidding words, and alatif does not understand and present the extreme hardship situation.
I wonder why the Christians happily consume the wine and the flesh of swine. Jesus used to drink but I believe that being like all other Jews, Jesus never went near any pig. alatif wants Muslims to walk on the same path, what for?
There are plenty of other pious things available in the world for mankind. Why alatif is advising Muslims, drinking and eating the flesh of swine??? (Or I misunderstood it!)

Alatif, flesh of swine is forbidden in Islam. It is very clear. The only exception is if there is risk of starvation. Even then only that much is allowed that would allow one to survive.
A government cannot ban someone from eating swine. As you said it is their personal business what they eat.
Alcohol is different. Alcohol consumption can result in physical harm to unborn babies, children, wives, and the entire society. According to an Emergency Room doctor on a PBS documentary, in his 10-12 years the most number of emergency cases brought to the hospital were a result of alcohol. So government CAN impose restrictions on its use or ban it outright.
I find it very amusing that in Western countries there are laws against driving while drunk, but there are no laws preventing the person from getting drunk. So there is nothing stopping a person from consuming alcohol when they are in a sane enough condition to stop, but there are laws against people when they are legally not sane enough to know any better!
The US did try banning alcohol once but it didn’t work…that is because you need both a people willing to submit to the commands of God and enactment of laws to make this work. Muslims countries have every right to ban alcohol if they chose.
In fact, a country can ban farming and selling of swine if they wish as many western countries have rules against import/export and breeding/keeping of certain animals (and plants) for their own health and/or political reasons. I think the only time banning a food item may infringe on personal freedom is if it is a religious requirement for another people in that country.

I suggest that you eat the flesh of swine and drink a little after eating the flesh of swine. Just be reasonable, try to pick out a clean pig for your consumption and do not eat too much. A little pig and a little wine may be good for you and will not harm you, according to your own understanding.
May I ask alatif, if alatif is drinking a little wine now and consuming a small quantity of the flesh of swine? Please reply.
Also, alatif: You can try to keep your drinking at low level. It may be good for your health.
That is alright. That may be good for you. But Muslims know what is good for them about wine and swine (wine and super Swine.)
Allah has told every one to eat the good things, and not to drink and not to eat flesh of Swine. Allah says it is not good for consumption. Now how to keep away from these two bad things? To allow them in small quantity or to shun them completely? If something is not good then even small quantity can be harmful. People will not stay within limits. Then there will be a problem trying to stop them.
Muslims know better whether to follow the advice of alatif or to follow the order of Allah and his messenger. We know that Jesus never went near a pig. He did not have love for pigs. Then why are Christians happily consuming flesh of Swines? That was the teaching of Paul, not Jesus? Some people (Christians) have to wake up and some (Muslims) have to keep awake. Beware! I drink beer and white and red wine, little bit ..it is good for my health. Wine is good for people who has the low blood presure. If you drink beer a cup of day, your blood will reduce heart attack, it makes your blood’s circulation better.
