JEDDAH, March 2 (KUNA) — Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz said Sunday the Muslim world faces critical situations characterized by bitter struggles and sedition.

“The recurrence of crises that result in loss of scores of lives at many hotspots in the Muslim world became a commonplace that draws no response,” he regretted.

The King made the remarks in his inaugural speech delivered on his inaugural behalf by Governor of Makkah Region Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz at the Second Global Conference of the Muslim World League (MWL) which opened at the Makkah-based MWL headquarters under the theme of “the Islamic World, Problems and Solutions.

“The armed conflicts and seditions result in heavy human and material losses and endless suffering in many parts of the Muslim world, notably Syria where the conflict broke out more three years ago,” the king said.
Such conflicts destabilized the Muslim world and weakened communication between the Muslim states and peoples which requires doubled efforts by sincere people to promote the culture of concord, moderation and tolerance, he stressed.

The King also called for more efforts to mend the rift in the Muslim ranks and face up to the hostile forces which tamper with the Islamic sanctities and Muslim unity.

Addressing the Muslim scholars, the King said: “Your sincere efforts on the popular level could couple with the efforts of the political leaders to serve the common interests of the Muslim nation.” He highlighted the need to restore unity and solidarity among all Muslims based on the Islamic principles of justice, compassion, humanity and good for all.

On his part, MWL Secretary General Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulmohsen Al-Turki thanked King Abdullah for his patronage of the conference and other MWL occasions and extolled his great efforts to reunify the Muslim nation.
In his speech to the opening ceremony, Al-Turki said: “Our Muslim nation faces many challenges which require us to alleviate or bypass them.

“This conference aims to spread a culture of solidarity among different sectors of the Islamic nation, take care of the scientific projects and programs and support the institutions of cooperation among Muslims,” SPA quoted him as saying.

“Since its inception 50 years ago, the MWL, has being advocating Islamic solidarity and unity and promoting belongingness to the Islamic communion which constitutes the mainstay of coexistence among all national, racial and factional components of our societies,” Dr. Al-Turki added.
