Refugees spiraling deeper into poverty: Oxfam

Monthly incomes for refugees is around $250 but average monthly expenditure is around $520, including rent, $225, and food, $275 .

To make ends meet many said they had spent their savings, about $370 on average, within four months of arrival and were borrowing money from friends and families, some of whom were still inside Syria, where the cost of living is lower compared to Lebanon. Some 77 percent of those interviewed said they were in debt, with the average household about $454 in the red.

Data was collected from over 320 respondents, including 260 household heads representing 1,591 families as well as municipality workers and non-governmental organization staff.
