Why Did Terrorists Strike An Upscale Mall In Kenya?

businessinsider.com: Kenyan officials said Saturday they had tightened security across the country in the wake of a terrorist attack that has underscored the challenges Kenya faces as it tries to rein in the Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabab group next door in Somalia.

The attack on Nairobi‘s upscale Westgate shopping mall killed at least 39 people and wounded about 150. It has left many citizens fearing for their security as the military and police continued to battle gunmen more than 10 hours after the attack began, and rekindled memories of recent grenade attacks on churches, public places, and police installations that Kenyan officials have blamed on the terrorist group.

The Islamist Al Shabab, which had recently threatened an attack, saying that Kenya should be prepared to mourn soon, took responsibility through a Twitter post.

“The Mujahideen entered #Westgate Mall today at around noon and are still inside the mall, fighting the #Kenyan Kuffar [nonbelievers] inside their own turf,” the group said.

  1. What kind of Islam do these savages believe in? How are they serving Islam by attacking innocent shopper going about their business?

True. Wisdom and extremism are like chalk and cheese: they don’t mix.

Such terrorist are going to end up in hell because of their murders and bringing a bad name (thus turning off people) to Islam

  2. The saga is still going on after over 24 hours of siege and we have no idea when and how it will end.

Or for that matter, why these goons have taken over a shopping mall.

As I write this, our President is again addressing the nation and appreciating the work of the security forces and the volunteer workers and passing on condolences to the ones who have lost their loved ones and those who are recovering in various hospitals, etc.

It is believed that there are still some 30 hostages within the mall though our security forces have taken control of the 1st and 2nd flrs of the place.

The thugs are supposed to be on the 3rd and 4th.

Fortunately, Kenyans are all united in this struggle to free the remaining hostages and in trying to bring these so-called ‘islamists’ to justice.

    Insha’Allah we shall succeed!

  3. Dear terrorists,

Brave boys and girls – shooting unarmed people who have gone out shopping!

I’m sure your God is proud of you!

    Rot in Hell!

  4. Dear Tim Walton

    Your message is correct.

But, none of the terrorists are reading the Muslim Times. They consider the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, to be non-Muslims.

So, if it was upto them we should not be manning a premier Muslim newspaper. They have the birth right to do so in our place.

    Tim, please talk to us.

    Peace!

  5. Just a reminder:

“As far as Islam is concerned, it categorically rejects and condemns every form of terrorism. It does not provide any cover or justification for any act of violence, be it committed by an individual, a group or a government….. I most strongly condemn all acts and forms of terrorism because it is my deeply rooted belief that not only Islam but also no true religion, whatever its name, can sanction violence and bloodshed of innocent men, women and children in the name of God.”
