Hindus worldwide will soon observe Krishna Janmashtami, a celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth. While many recognize the differences between Islam and Hinduism, few may appreciate that according to Islamic principles and Prophet Muhammad, Lord Krishna was a true Prophet of God.
The obvious question that emerges is that if the same God sent Lord Krishna and Prophet Muhammad, why do Islam and Hinduism have notable theological differences? Simply put, Islam only argues that the original core teachings of Hinduism and Islam are the same — the unity of God and the obligation to serve mankind. Furthermore, nothing in the Quran, Sunnah or Hadith declares that Lord Krishna was not a prophet. Thus, this short article offers nine points to consider — together — that Lord Krishna is a true prophet of God, a prophet whom Muslims also revere along with their fellow Hindu neighbors.
1. First, the Quran is the only ancient scripture that specifically mentions and praises other faiths. While the Quran mentions Jews and Christians specifically, in numerous places, likewise, it mentions Hindus in a group known as the Sabians. Sabians refer to non-Abrahamic traditions — Hindus, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Taoists, etc. Thus, recognition of Hinduism exists in the Quran.
2. Islam teaches six Articles of Faith. The Fourth Article of Faith is the belief in all of God’s prophets. This simple Article of Faith provides further credence to recognizing Lord Krishna as a prophet sent to the Indian subcontinent.

3. The Quran is clear that God’s Divine guidance is not exclusive to any one people. Rather the Quran says that God sent “messengers to every people” (10:48) and “We raised among every people a messenger” (16:37). Prophet Muhammad further declared that God has sent no less than 124,000 prophets to mankind throughout history (Ibn Hanbal, Musnad, 5, 169) of which only 28 are mentioned in the Quran. None of those 28 prophets are mentioned as being sent to the Indian subcontinent. Thus, it is perfectly reasonable that Lord Krishna is one of the many prophets God sent with His Divine message.
4. Segueing from the previous point, the Quran clearly declares, “And We sent some Messengers whom We have already mentioned to thee and some Messengers whom We have not mentioned to thee…” (4:165). Thus, to declare that Lord Krishna is not a prophet simply because the Quran does not mention him is a meritless argument.
5. Remarkably, Prophet Muhammad declared, “There was a prophet of God in India who is dark in color and his name was Kahan [Krishna]” (History of Hamadan Dailmi Chapter Al-Kaaf). Some critics allege this is not a Sahih (authentic) hadith, and while their assessment could be valid, their conclusion that the hadith should be discarded is invalid. Basic Islamic jurisprudence holds that if a hadith does not contradict the Quran, then it may be accepted as valid. As mentioned earlier, nothing in the Quran, Sunnah or Hadith declare that Lord Krishna was not a prophet of God. Thus, Prophet Muhammad’s testimony provides clear guidance of Lord Krishna’s status in Islam — that of a prophet. In fact, a renowned early 19th century Muslim scholar, Muhammad Qasim Nanotwi also was of the opinion that considering the evidence and this hadith, Lord Krishna was a true Prophet of God (Dharam Parchar Pg 8 & Debate Shah Jahan Pur Pg 31).
6. Islam’s Third Article of Faith is the Belief in God’s Books. This is why Muslims revere the Injeel (Gospels) and Torah (Old Testament). Thus, it is only logical that Muslims also revere the Gita and Vedas, Hinduism’s holy scriptures from which Lord Krishna taught.
7. Earlier I mentioned that both Islam and Hinduism teach the unity of God and service of mankind — a message both Prophet Muhammad and Lord Krishna taught. In fact, the Vedas state, “There is only one God, worship Him” (Rig Veda, 6.45.16) and “Do not worship any one beside Him” (Rig Veda 8.1.1) and also, “God is only one, not a second” (Chandogya Upanishad Ch. 6.2.1). Furthermore, countless verses in the Vedas teach the service of mankind. For example, “Oh Noble men! We do not commit violence. We do not hurt others. We do not quarrel either. We of course chant Vedas and act according to its dictates” (Rig Veda 10.134.7) and “Every man should protect the other in all respects” (Atharva 6.64.1). Again, while admitted theological differences exist between Islam and Hinduism today, no doubt exists that Prophet Muhammad and Lord Krishna both taught God’s unity and service to mankind.
8. Furthermore, Lord Krishna’s scriptures clearly prophesize Prophet Muhammad’s advent in multiple places. We provide just two. Bhavisyath Purana 3:5-8 states, “A spiritual reformer will come from a foreign land (outside Bharat) with his disciples. His name will be Mahamad. He will dwell in a desert.” Likewise, “His [Mahamad’s] followers will perform circumcision. They will not keep their hair in the form of Choti as the Brahmans do. They will keep beard. They will bring about a revolution. They will call with a loud voice [i.e. Adhaan]. They will eat meat of animals other than that of swine. They will attain purity through Jihad. Their civilization will be called Muslay [Muslim].” For the sake of brevity we will avoid further commentary on these verses as they speak volumes on their own. Suffice it to say, however, that these verses further support the argument that the same God who sent Prophet Muhammad, sent Lord Krishna. Earlier we provided Prophet Muhammad’s hadith validating Lord Krishna, and now we provide Lord Krishna’s holy scripture validating Prophet Muhammad. What further proof do we need that Prophet Muhammad and Lord Krishna are brothers cut from the same mold?
9. Finally, in the Quran, God gives Prophet Muhammad the auspicious title of Khataman Nabiyeen or Seal of the Prophets (33:41). While some limit this title’s meaning to “last,” from Hadith and authentic Arabic lexicon it is clear that the true import of “Seal” is Greatness and Validation. That is, Prophet Muhammad is called not only the greatest prophet, but also the Validation of all prophets. Thus, it makes perfect sense why Prophet Muhammad specifically called Lord Krishna a Prophet — part of his purpose in coming was to declare to the world that God did not abandon any people. Rather, God sent His guidance and prophets to all people. In doing so, Prophet Muhammad validated Lord Krishna’s truthfulness — something no prophet of any faith outside of Islam has done. Thus, as human beings we must honor and revere all those prophets because the same God sent each of them — Lord Krishna being no exception.
In short, Prophet Lord Krishna was a noble, righteous, beloved one of God. Far from theological division, he is a source of unity and accord between Hindus and Muslims.

Why can’t you just say that Krishna is a prophet, instead of saying he is a prophet of Allah? It only causes division with Hindus–particularly those in INDIA. Your intentions might have been good, but not quite good enough…?

Lord Krishna appeared on earth 5000 years back much before Islam. Sanskrit is the mother of all languages. One can see everything in Mahbharatha, Upanishads and Purana texts mentioned in other religious texts too. God is one with different names in different part of the world. Religions are merely different paths to join the same supreme soul. So no need to be fanatic on one religion. Live and let others live. India is the most tolerant country which gave shelters to both home and foreign religions.

The way we say that Islam is the oldest religion is that we believe in all the prophets Allah / God the Creator of us all sent to the earth. Islam is just the continuation of what was before.
Mohan Madan Shri Krishna Shyam is God Satchidanand Purn Brahm Paramatma. Shri Shyam Krishna is truth, conscious and blissful. He is eternal. He is chitghan swaroop which means the heart of the soul.The home of Shri Krishna is Paramdham where there are other souls too. Though there are Brahm and Aatma, it is for sport but there is adwait (non-dual). The Brahmatma (souls of Brahm) sport with Brahm. The concept in (sanatan dharm eternal duty) hinduism cannot be known by words. What that is senses cannot detect and cannot be expressed by speech.
This world is not real, it is not true (Mithya), it appears to us as true but it is illusion -Maya. Shri Krishna played leela(sport) in Braj and Raas without living His Paramdham, just like kids play Virtual Reality game. Shri Krishna never told I am giving message of God. He did not say believe in God but said Believe in me. He said sarva-dharmān parityajya

“Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.” Thus the Lord takes all responsibility for one who surrenders unto Him, and He indemnifies such a person against all reactions of sins.
All the beings that are in earth or 14 realms, do not know who or what is behind their living. The ego, mind and senses distract them on illusion but the moment they realize they are aatma(soul) they become one with Supreme Brahm (Eka brahma dvitiya nasti There is one Brahm and not two), then there is no duality it is called Adwait (Non-dual). Only Brahm exists nothing else (we appear to exist because of mind, the moment the mind disappears, there is no division between Brahm and Aatma) The oneness with God in yoga state is called Kaivalya.
Vasudev’s 6 sons were killed by evil King Kans and before 8th son Shri Krishna was born Vishnu dev from Vaikunth dham appeared to instruct Vasudev to take the child to Gokul. Shyam saved the souls under the mountain from flood that lasted for seven days and seven nights. Shyam also collected all the souls from Braj in a boat and took them to Vrindavan garden to play raas.
Mustafa Beg lived a normal life before he got the message from Mohamad after he is called Rasool Mohammad Paigambar mean one who got the message of Mohamad. The Mohamad is Shri Krishnaji Shyam who gave the message paigam.

Just because you applied the word “Honourable”, does not mean that Hindus will believe in your bogus word. Lord Krishna is the Supreme Lord Himself. His Authority, Supremacy and Lordship is completely unchallenged. He is the creator, operator and destroyer of all that exists. He is not anyone’s prophet. Prophecy is a foolish concept of Islam. it would be better or the best if you remove the complete article. i believe in Allah who is almighty, not a word created by mohammed. i do not need mohammed or any prophet to have faith in Allah or to reach Him. prophecy is a word used to cover one’s demonic activities and ideologies in the name of Allah. If Allah gives me a signal to believe in prophets then I will come back to you and ask for forgiveness.
Also. The blunt forward truth is that : Krishna was directly a drop of the Supreme soul known in Hinduism as Parabrahmaa. Known as an Avatar. similar to what Jesus being Son of God. Except that Krishna God incarnate. [both happened in their times].
But to be a prophet is very different. Moses, Hindu sages, Mohammad, Buddha, people inclined with full divine insight who then instruct others in the ways of god.
So in a direct way, Krishna was not a prophet. BUT BUT BUT ….. what he did:
He was a King Maker during the Mahabharata … not a fighter or anything.
He was an advisor, strategist, tactician (but without fighting).
And his full discourse is known as the Bhagavat Gita.*
* Bhagavat Gita: The complete Science of Yoga (not religion or practice or poses or saying “Om”). The macro version of Anthony Robbins “The Power Within or Cashflow Quadrant”.
So he become a Teacher, a Prophet by discoursing the Bhagavat Gita for all Mankind.
Yes: In this sense, Krishna is a Prophet of God supreme.
By Studying the Gita, you become a better human being.
If you are Hindu, you understand Vedas better, if you are Muslim, your personal understanding of Allah improves when you read the Quran, if you are Christian your understanding of the Bible deepens, If you are atheist, your appreciation for science, nature, philosophy of life gets deeper. You live a better life.
I am not saying Gita in supreme. Studying only Gita itself without studying the rest is also incomplete. And this spiritual reality is most important in today’s spiritually and emotionally confused world.

Did Allah guide you about Lord Krishna as a prophet ?
Allah revealed to Promised Messiah (peace by upon him) that people like Buddha, Krishna, Tao, Aristotle were all prophets. We Ahmadis believe Mirza Ghulam Ahmad sahib to be a prophet and therefore believe that what he told us as a part of his revelations is true. This is the basis of our being Muslims, as we believe in the truth of all religions and inclusion of all humans in salvation. Our Allah is the Lord of all humans and humanity is one brotherhood to whom different messengers were sent by Allah for guidance and salvation.
May allah guide you there is no prophet after prophet Mohammed whoever says otherwise have gone astray

Lord Krishna is param Brahman.Lord Krishna is avatar(human form of God) of our creater. Don’t call bhagvan Krishna prophet it is insult or I say blasphemy of Krishna. If you have read bhagvat Geeta and believe in Krishna and also believe in Allah then you must say Allah Is Krishna and Krishna is Allah.

My Dear Qasin Rashid. Thanks for your effort in writing this article. But you have to understand that according to Bhagwad Geeta Krishna says that he is incarnation of lord Vishnu. As a matter of fact, leave Mohammed, your Allah is no equivalent to Krishna.
There is no comparison between Quran and Bhagwad Gita. Quran says believe me otherwise I will send you to hell. But Gita says no matter if you believe me or not, I will give you Moksha based on your deed. There is lot of difference between the nature of Gods in Quran and Gita. If you say Krishna is prophet, then you have to accept the fact that Mohammed is a fake prophet. If you say Mohammed is prophet, then Krishna is not prophet of Allah..but greater than Allah..

CREATOR IS GOD, the name of God will be different according to languange you speak.
As long as people believe in Creator , we have one brotherhood. Every nation has different prophet. Dose it make sense?

It, i mean lord krishna according to gita is and was not just lord but also everything, even includes the whole universe. That means if Allah is real then he or she or it is also part of “krishna”.

I am a 20 year old muslim and i believe in the ALMIGHTY ALLAH because that was what i was taught right from childhood and that has become part of me and hence my solid believe. One thing all of us fail to understand is that we all have our believes. As a muslim,I have a far better understanding and love of islam than a hindu,jew and so on, And as a hindu or jew,you have far better understanding and faith in your religion than a muslim because that is what you believe in right since childhood. We should not call other religions and their leaders fake,because as humans and according to all scriptures,tolerance is promoted. There is no need to argue over this. Let us follow our different religions and believes and make sure we always do our best to promote peace and unity. You showed only selected lines of Hindu scriptures like what jakir naik was said. According to Hindu scriptures like Veda, bhavishya purana and Bhagavat gita Lord Vishnu is supreme power or god. Lord Krishna is incarnation of lord Vishnu. Mahamad is mentioned in Hindu scriptures and it doesn’t mean that all Hindus Muslims but it means that all Muslims origin is Hinduism. Lord Krishna clearly said in Bhagavat gita that he is the incarnation of lord Vishnu. He is the creator of the Universe and he is the supreme power. why are you hiding these lines from Hindu scriptures. Lord Krishna never said about he is the prophet. so Lord Krishna is not a prophet of Islam. Hinduism is the oldest religion in the world. and lord Vishnu is the supreme power.
