In a major boost for the enemies of Bashar al-Assad, the American government has recognized the Syrian National Council as the true representative of that nation’s people.

“We have made a decision that the Syrian opposition coalition is now inclusive enough, is reflective and representative enough of the Syrian population, that we consider them the legitimate representative of the Syrian people,” President Barack Obama told ABC News in an interview.
