“Qadian Issue”: How the record of 1974 anti-Ahmadiyya proceedings came to be declassified

Ahmadiyya Times: Bashir A. Khan, Esq.

Ahmadiyya Times Editor’s Note: The following account is published with permission from the author, Bashir A. Khan, Esq., Barrister and Solicitor, who reports a painstaking follow up which finally resulted in declassification of the anti-Ahmadiyya in-camera proceedings held in the Pakistan National Assembly in 1974. Among the struggles of Barrister Khan was an open letter he wrote in January 2010 to Dr. Fehmida Mirza, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, which was published first in Pak Tea House blog and subsequently cross-posted at Ahamdiyya Times.

Re: Record of proceedings of the Special Committee of the Whole House of the National Assembly of Pakistan (1974) which discussed and debated the Ahmadi Question and as a result the Second Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan was passed which declared Ahmadis as ‘Not Muslim’.

Dr. Fehmida Mirza, who is the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, has supplied me with the very first copy of these debates which I just received in January 2012. I have arranged for these debates to be saved on a CD as a PDF file. The debates consist of 21 separate sessions/volumes and are 3,083 pages long.

In summer of 2008, I undertook a self-directed project on my own to have the Government of Pakistan release a copy of these debates to me for my academic research. This project took up three and a half years of my life and cost me $13,800 dollars and thousands of hours of research into this topic.

  1. A vast (over 98%) majority of people shall never see or read the report which is 3,083 pages long. Some scholars, will eventually use the references from this report by carefully choosing only those references, which are favourable to thier own sect or ideology.

The system of Jama’at Ahmadiyya should conduct an honest (UNBIASED)study of this document and post all the pros and cons on the nternational website.

  2. I agreed with Br Aslam Chaudhry about the report of 1974 Assembly proceeding.
Why the Government of Pakistan itself hiding the TRUTH and published reports with their official SEAL.
May Allah Almighty Bless all of us

  3. What do you mean by cons? It was the testimony of Khalifatul Massih, so what could be the negative points thee?

  4. Alfazl International 12th October to 18th October has published the comments of Dr. Pervaiz Parvazi Sahib on this topic. It mentions that the report published by National Assembly of Pakistan has totally omitted the presentation of Jama’at, which was with the name of “Mahzar Nama”. Assembly proceedings of 22nd and 23rd July 1974. has totaly been omitted. Evidence that how the so called Ulema failed to respond to certain points raised by Jama’at has also been omitted.

  5. The shi’a and catholics have a doctrine of infallibility for their imams and popes.

The Qur’an teaches that the discourse of anyone other than God will have errors and much discrepancies [4:83], for none other than Allaah Himself is All-Knowing and All-Wise.

Even a prophet can make an error in ijtihaad, more so in the case of those lesser then them, and the Qur’an does mentioned some errors of prophets.

So, whilst I have only studied part of the proceedings so far, don’t be surprised to come across some statements which required further clarification.

It is human to learn from the past, and the prophets also underwent development in their ta’leem and tarbiyyat through various trials and tribulations.

The Promised Messiah a.s. also changed some of his ideas over the course of time, some of which were due to the receipt of direct divine revelation on the matter, and this was not just in the case of khatme-nabuwwat or wafaat-e-Isa a.s., and those previous ideas can’t be referred to as ‘positively correct’.

Human infallibility is not an Islamic doctrine, for it amounts to shirrk, and you will find some of those in authority [e.g. scholars, leaders] trying to strengthen their own seat at the cost of the authority of Allah and His Messenger s.a., whereas their status is no more than that of a subbordinate, and obedience to them is conditional.

  6. I totally agree with Mr Aslam Ch.i don;t know why govt.of pakistan publish that debate for all pakistanies.may be govt of Pakistan affraid of all people of pakistan become Ahmadies.

  7. You now what is totally amazing is that everyone in that proceeding said that there were dozens of cameras and microphones in that proceeding. After all, it was referred to as an “in-camera” session. Here is the funny thing. If they can release the transcripts, why not release the full unedited tapes of the proceedings. I mean, what is there to hide. It seems very fishy that you can release the transcripts but not the tapes of the proceedings.
