It is a volume about Muslim Heritage.  Heritage of Islam is not about some bragging rights.  It is not about some feel good emotion!  It is not about the past!  It is about rational defense of Islam and the Muslims, about their past, present and future.

Every so often discussion comes up in the political forums in Europe and North America about the clash of civilization, about integration of the Muslims in the West and their role in civic, political and intellectual life in the West and we need all this information about Muslim heritage, readily available to push back any unwarranted criticism.  Without further adoo here is the link to read several articles and other sources on this theme:

The Majesty that Islam was and soon will be!‏

Now I link some recent news items, where this information would be handy, in the dialogue between the West and the East, to create a genuine global village with basic rights and human dignity for all citizens:

  1. It is very unfortunate to relate the stories or happenings of previous civilization with modern age civilization. We guess the trends, life style and socioeconomic development in previous civilizations, based on archeological research and older scriptures. We find a gradual developmental process in human life along with the atmospheric changes around the globe. That was a great impact on living being. Any human being has been recognized with one’s belief system since we have a knowledge of recorded history. From Adams and eve till now, we, human beings, are gone through many progressive stages. The religion of Islam was a turning point of human race to live within a set of rules. Islamic heritage is muddled up with power and politics. It could be ottoman dynasty or Mughal Empire, Power and terror played man role. In our present times, with all high tech and sociocultural development, we relate Muslim heritage with sword and aggression. It is true when we see the Muslims affairs around the globe. All Islamic traditions are adopted by the western societies in terms of justice, respect of others’ rights, freedom, and many other Islamic traditions. On the other end of continua, in Muslim countries, we find all types of crimes, injustice, lack of freedom, socioeconomic slavery, terrorism and many more evils. So we must think hundred times before we brag about Islamic heritage.

  2. I do not quite follow A. Hayee’s argument why it should be ‘unfortunate’ to relate ‘stories of old’ with the ‘modern civilization’. After all we are all the ‘heritage’ of our past.

True, the ‘Islamic world’ today in many aspects today is not the best example. We can quote the times when the Islamic culture was blossoming to prove (among other things) that science and Islam are in pure harmony. The fact that now-a-days Muslims and science are not outshining the West does not contradict the past achievements. And when Islamic civilization was great in the past it means it can be so again in the future.

After all the ‘Western Civilizations’ have their own huge shortcomings. We are for instance in great danger of destruction from the very science that has made the West a leading power.

Great Civilizations usually followed the arrival of a Prophet, although it took some time. That was the case after the arrival of our beloved Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings be on him). Therefore we are on the right path if we now expect a resurgence of the Islamic Civilization after the arrival of the Imam Mahdi (a.s.).

  3. I mean here unfortunate because a man of our age is still taking revenges of the past, i.e. Bosnian genocide, Jerusalem genocide, Australian aboriginal genocide and many more killing and mass murdering. This so-called revenge of oncoming civilizations put a foundation of next civilization on the blood of human beings. After all blood shed, Muslim heritage never vanished because of a living religion and faith.
Brother Rafiq, I agree with you 100 %. The founder of Ahmadiyya Community, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad gave a right direction to Muslim civilization, entering in a newer phase of development.

  4. The articles in Alislam-eGazette are meant to show that religious freedom started with the Holy Quran, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may peace be on him and actions of Hadhrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.

Others did not possess these shining principles even centuries after the revelation of the Holy Quran. Please also read another article that I linked yesterday, by Abdul Haq Compier:
