An Indonesian sets himself on fire in front Palace

An unidentified 40-year-old man poured flammable liquid over his body and set himself on fire in front of the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Wednesday evening.

According to an officer with the Metro Gambir Police, the man suffered severe burns and was rushed to the Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital (RSCM), also in Central Jakarta.

A piece of paper containing a message was found in the man’s pocket, but its contents have not been released.

The police also confiscated four bottles of gasoline, one pair of blue pants and burnt clothes as evidence. The man is in a coma, tribunnews.com reported. A number of activists are planning to visit him on Thursday. Read more
