AMMAN – The Kingdom is forecast to witness the first showers of the wet season on Friday as a weak depression affects the country, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

The depression, centred over Cyprus, will start affecting the country on Friday morning, bringing temperatures down five degrees below their annual average of 31ºC for this time of the year, weather forecaster Hisham Malkawi told The Jordan Times during a phone interview on Wednesday.

He said the weather today will be fair in hilly areas and relatively hot in the rest of the country, while winds will be northwesterly moderate to brisk at times.

Temperatures will range between a high of 30ºC during the day and a low of 19ºC overnight in the capital, according to the JMD.

“The weak depression will start affecting the country as of Friday morning, when clouds at different altitudes will start forming and temperatures will start dipping,” Malkawi added.
