Jordanian aircraft carrying relief aid leaves for Somalia

AMMAN (Petra) – A Royal Jordanian Air Force aircraft carrying a 10-tonne shipment of humanitarian assistance and medical equipment left for Somalia on Sunday upon the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah. On Saturday, the King instructed the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) to dispatch relief aid to the Somali people suffering from the worst drought and starvation in six decades. “The assistance is sent in implementation of the King’s directives to alleviate the suffering of Somali people”, HRH Prince Rashed, chairman of the JHCO board of trustees, said at a ceremony before the plane’s departure. A delegation, chaired by JHCO Secretary General Ahmad Amyan, also left for Somalia to follow up on measures taken to distribute aid.
