Jewish and Muslim ritual slaughter will be illegal in Denmark starting on Monday, by order of Agriculture and Food Minister Dan Jørgensen.

Ritual slaughter, known in Hebrew as shechita, is already banned in Poland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.

The Netherlands attempted to ban shechita, but a deal was brokered, legalizing the practice in 2012.

On Monday, all slaughter that is not preceded by stunning will be forbidden in Denmark, rendering it impossible for ritual slaughter to be carried out according to Shar’ia or Halacha, Danish station TV2 reported on Wednesday.

“Animal rights come before religion,” the minister was quoted as saying.

  1. ghulam sarwar – because it’s not just a faith matter; it’s an animal welfare matter.

Togieda Rademeyer – because not everyone shares your religion, and Denmark is not a muslim state.

  2. Al, the method of slaughter that is practiced by the Jews and the Muslims is the most merciful to the animal.

As Ghulam Sarwar has aptly pointed out – how do animal rights groups know that it does not suffer when being stunned?

Also, the ritualistic slaughtering practiced by the Jews and Muslims is done using a sharp knife which severs the jugular vein and carotid artery without severing the spine. This method makes sure that the animal immediately dies to all intents and purposes since all blood is let from the brain, yet the involuntary movements of the animal are still there due to the spine being still intact and all the blood is let out.

We are not allowed to consume blood and from a health point of view too, it is unhealthy to consume this as we might be ingesting diseases that the animal might be suffering from via the blood.

Also, the meat of an animal slaughtered in this way will stay longer and tastes better.

After all the proponents of stunning still have to keep the carcass for a while to drip as much blood as possible from it’s body. And by retaining the blood in the body the germs in it multiply in leaps and bounds!

Are the rights of animals more important than the rights of human beings in these countries? If so, why don’t they go vegetarian since it bothers them so much to slaughter them?
